Hey Guys
The lifespan of the S+ is reaching its end (No Android L) and im wondering what y'all got as replacement for your S+ and if you still use your s+ after you got a new phone
Or do you even use your S+ as Primary?
I for myself got a Nexus 5 a few weeks ago (atm in repair) and I got a replacement Galaxy S4 mini until my N5 comes back.
I miss the N5 so much ..holy sht man. I even made the S4M look like my N5...
P.S: if youre about to buy a new phone, id want to let you know that samsung still didnt change their update policys...they give 1-2 updates and thats it..so be careful what you buy.
Recommended phones: Nexus Phones(Best Choice - Every bit of needed code is released)
Phones with Qualcomm SoC(Not the Samsung ones - Usually good documentation and interchangable sources)
Google Play Edition Phones(Unlike the Nexus devices those dont get updated by google, but from their manufacturer f.e Samsung)
Motorola Phones (What Motorola does is, they basically use AOSP on their phones with some useful adaptions, thus reducing the development time for the developers over at Motorola. What does that mean? It means youll get the update earlier than ohers f.e Samsung!
If you want to use custom roms, your main attention should lay on the SoC. Let me explain to you why.
Qualcomm has very good documentation and helps the developers with preconfigured stuff, just take a look at code aurora. Also they provide all the needed sources unlike Samsung with their Exynos SoC´s (The Galaxy S3 still doesnt have working project butter from Android 4.1 in his AOSP based roms). I have no idea how other manufacturers handle their sources, but you should also be aware of their update policy.
"Meh, Xellar, im still going to buy a Samsung!"
Alright, but check this out before: http://www.sammobile.com/2014/05/08...-galaxy-s-iii-gt-i9300-and-galaxy-s-iii-mini/

Funny, right? They did the same **** with the Galaxy S1(S Plus), and S2 (S2 Plus)...now the S3(S3 Neo). Next up, S4(Neo).
I can bet my last penny, that the same will happen to the S4, AND the S5 in the future. What makes it a little bit better for these both is that they have Qualcomm SoC´s, that makes it easier for developer to take the lifespan even further.
"Yeah..what are you talking there xellar!? I see the S3 has many many roms"
Sure, the roms are running. But did you checkout the logcats and dmesg logs?
-Camera is hacked together
-No Project Butter from 4.1 aka Jellybean (Thanks to missing blobs)
-Sound is Buggy
And all that just because of the Exynos SoC, if it had he QCOM S4 Pro, like the Nexus 4, this phone would still fly through the sky. But samsung was like nah. So the devs who got it are basically fuc*ed right now.
The best combination you can get is a Nexus phone with Qualcomm SoC (N4/N5/NextNexus). The next nexus phone will probably have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805, the Nexus 9 will have a Tegra K1.
What i can tell you is:
There will be 3 new Nexus Phones (2 of them are Android One, made by Micromax - Probably some cheap MediaTeK SoC, but since google updates it, it shouldnt be that bad) (The Nexus "6" aka Shamu is probably made by Motorola)
There will be a new Nexus Tablet (Nexus 9, made by HTC)
There will be 2 new Motorola Phones (New Moto X & the Moto G(2))
Last but not least, reccomended phones:
One+1, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 4, Galaxy S4 GPE, New Moto X, Moto G(2), Moto E(2), Galaxy S5, HTC M8 GPE,
Reccomended Tablets:
Nexus 7 2013, Nvidia Shield Tablet, Nexus 10, Nexus 9
Be very careful in what you buy, if you want to keep your phone for more than 1year.
