Well I owned the galaxy S, the original note, the note 2 and now the note 3. With the addition of the full HD screen, the 13 mp cam, the ir blaster and 4G it has al features I want.
For all predecessors I definately needed root to even achieve my (shortlist of) wishes. The note 3 is the first phone that implements almost all of my wishes at stock, except for 2 must-have's and 1 nice to have (of course this is personal):
-Configurable home screen grid. Man, I feel like an idiot when I see that 5 rows x 4 colums home screen when booted into Touchwiz on a screen size like that! We're talking about a phablet here... Give us the option to choose the grid size of the home screen! Give us the option to change the per app dpi like in ParanoidAndroid... How hard can it be?
-Possibility to backup and restore phone (app) settings. That'd be really useful when wanting to factory reset (start all over fresh) or changing phones.
Haha, just implement the 'must have's' and a lot of people don't need to root anymore... That can make more customers happy AND keep Samsung from preventing rooting like implementing e-fuses (like KNOX's) to void warranty (I don't want to know how much the development of this architecture (implemented with an e-fuse) costs). By NOT showing that kind of authority (keeping customers from rooting, or else...) but instead providing features that shorten the wish lists of you and me would be a better way preventing customers to install custom roms and rooting. Listening and returning value is what actually make customers happy!
Nice to have:
-I really use the notification led a lot. It would be nice if stock gave me enough options to choose which app throws what light. Now I use an app called 'light flow' and it does it's job (even when my note 3 is not rooted). I installed this app in the past on my rooted note 2 and the only difference i notice is that the rooted note 2 could control the led through 'light flow' even when the screen was on. The unrooted note 3 can only make the led blink in the desired colour when the screen is off. Of course that's more than acceptable to me cause if the screen is on you can check the notifications on the screen itself. Main critiscism from my behalf is that I don't understand I need a 3rd party app to control a multicolour led light. They could have used just a blue led instead then... This led can make any colour you like! So why didn't Samsung gave us more freedom to choose colours for each notification event from stock Touchwiz?
Please hit the 'thanks' button when I helped you solve your case.
