No.

Unpack this full ROM zip,
get ODIN (in first post)
run phone in download mode (vol down+menu+power)
connect when running odin
choose PDA file and point to unpacked TAR archive from this zip
click flash

you're done

If you did modified it, then yes. To clear "custom binary" counter you should use JIG or hacked bootloader. Flashing Stock rom will not erase the counter ever :)

Question for clarification please.

1. I rooted using this method:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQL9fVSisFI

I realize it trips the flash counter once. I checked it via download mode. I'm coming from the EVO 4G (original) and did a lot of flashing. There was never any talk about "Insecure Kernals". Not that I remember. What is the Insecure Kernel all about?

I did not root via adb. I used Odin as in the video above.

2. Is there a need to unlock the bootloader? Should I? Does the above method do it?

3. I read something somewhere about flashing and bricking your NFC chip. Under what circumstances does this happen. I certainly don't want to do that.

4. Has anyone figured out a way to reset the flash counter yet? I really dont care that much as I don't expect a hardware failure any time soon.

5. It seems there has been some confusion about flashing a separate radio / modem. Are they contained within the stock ROM's. It appears the radio is and the kernal is separate? Clarification please?

Thanks for all your time guys. I appreciate this. I'm starting over from the old EVO 4g (that I never got 4g on)

No need to unlock at&t's bootloader.

Only if you have set up the secure element do you need to make sure to reset it before you wipe. If you re do the Rom with wallet set up, you will brick the secure element.

Not yet.

AT&T just pushed an OTA of UCLG1. Haven't seen it posted anywhere except from me. Is there a way I can download the OTA off my phone for xda?

    Questions and Answers:

Q: Does this ROM will TOP UP my custom binary counter?
A: No! Stock roms are from Samsung directly, they are ORIGINAL. They don't count as "custom" so the counter will NOT be rised.

Q: Does this ROM will reset my custom binary counter?
A: No, custom binary counter will NOT reset by flashing stock rom, to reset custom binary counter you will need to use patched bootloader.

    Enjoy!

I'm not sure what's going on now. I went back to the stock rom once successfully after an unsuccessful CM9 flash by using the file in the with odin. Now, coming from CM9 back to stock I flashed using odin again, but it's hanging at the end of the boot process (after the ATT logo comes by etc), and the Samsung logo is just fading in/out slightly. What went wrong? I tried doing it twice but same result.

If it has been 10-15minutes and it's still on the screen do this.
Pull battery, Boot in recovery mode(vol up, home button, and power button together)
Wipe data/factory reset then wipe cache. Once you do that just reset and you should bypass to setup screen.
