It is a great little device if you take it for what it is and not what you expect it to be.
my expectation of a companion watch is very simple. tell me the time as sync with the phone, alert me of calls, smses, emails and messages. optionally provide some simple utilities/tools like calculator, stopwatch, timer, show status and maybe some simple games.
the gear has provided most of the features. what is missing is the handling of social media messages that i (cannot say for the rest of you)spent most of my time on the phone with; facebook, twitter, whatsapp, wechat, viber, line, other email app, etc.
as this is the missing part which for me is the reason for getting a companion watch, i tend to use my sw2 most of the time rather than my gear.
sepiroth887 is doing a great job with the atn manager for a notification catch-all which samsung should have implemented in the first place. however, it is still a stop gap measure for real companion apps.
sw2 is much matured in this area with a much larger number of apps that are really companion apps to the phone apps.
over time, the gear will mature with more and more companion apps been released. until then, my gear will not be replacing my sw2 as my daily wear.
