You don't even need to activate a 4G phone, just swap your SIM and it's good to go. It won't show up on VZW's site correctly unless you go through activation, but it's no big deal especially if you buy the phone used.

Verizon sucks. Even though I'm still on the $60 plan for 450 minutes, unlimited text and data, I am getting tired of my Thunderbolt and want something better. If I decide to buy a new phone it has to be off contract, which will add $20/mo more to my plan if you factor in the $400 price difference.

This brings me to about the same price as going with AT&T, granted I can't get unlimited but I can manage with 3GB per month. I really want a GSIII too...

Keep your plan, buy a phone at retail or used. Verizon has the best network, period. AT&T sucks, worst customer service, lowest customer satisfaction, most dropped calls.

Instead of renewing my Verizon contract I decided to get the GSM Galaxy Nexus for $350 and use a Prepaid plan from T-Mobile. $30 a month for 100 Minutes of talk time (which I hardly ever use more than that and even if I did it's still just $0.10 per minute extra), unlimited Text and "Unlimited" Data (Which really is just 5GB of T-Mobile HSPA + 4G).

My 4G is now around 7Mbps instead of 20 but honestly I haven't felt a huge difference. I'm using my home wi-fi a lot more now too as well as waiting till I get home for updates and stuff like that. But for the most part data feels about the same.

I do live in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago so my service here is great and the only place I ever really travel to is Milwaukee and service there is fine too. So that's something to keep in mind. Certainly not a plan for everyone but for people like me it's certainly a good way to save $$.

Verizon was always useful on my work trips but those are only so many a year. The rest of the year I live right here.
