I completely agree with you though, Touchwiz is bloated and heavy and I prefer stock Android over all others.
I don't think the Android core is to blame, although I admit even pure Android still isn't as smooth as iOS. I also have an HTC One which I believe uses the same processor as the S4 though underclocked. Between the two devices, the One is far more fluid and has fewer hiccups in day to day usage. Also, I believe TRIM is included in 4.3 though it was my understanding that it only alleviates slow down associated with transfer of large files and overtime eliminating resources... But to be honest, after reading about it I wasn't exactly sure what it was or if it pertained to me in my usage.
