Unlocking Bootloader. Xperia 2011. Test Point Method

Update: It seems that the MDPI devices which were manufactured at later times have been implemented with Sony protection, which does not allow you to unlock the boot-loader with the current version of s1Tool. You will need to use the Official Sony method and loose the DRM keys in the process.

Follow the following steps to unlock the bootloader of your Xperia 2011 device.
Unlcoking bootloader lets you flash custom kernels and ROMs to your device.
If you end up doing something wrong, flash firmware using flashtool.
I do not care if you spill coffee on your phone while doing all this. I will try to help you as much as I can, in such a case, but I can never guarantee

If you unlock your bootloader by this method, you will not loose the DRM keys of your phone. This means that apps like Track ID will work even on unlocked bootloader.
You can lock your bootloader again, and flash the stock Sony Firmware, and your phone will be as it was when it came from factory.

What all you will need?
1. Saftey Pin
2. Short Piece of Wire
3. USB Cable [MicroUsb male to USB male]
4. s1tool [Here]

iUlqmqvC4rVZr.jpg

1. Download the s1tool.rar and extract the files to your Desktop (for referencial purposes)
2. Open up Phone Dialer app, and type
Code:
*#*#7378423#*#*
3. Go to Service Info... Configuration... And see whats there in Rooting Status. If it reads like:
Code:
Rooting Status:
  Bootloader unlock Status: Yes
proceed. Else, do not attempt to unlock the bootloader

I. Creating the testpoint cable
1. Connect the piece of wire with the USB Cable and the saftey pin as shown.

2. Take the sharp end of the saftey pin, and hold it on the test point.
3. Keep the pin in place using your left hand.
4. Using your right hand, plug in the male USB end of the USB port into your PC.

Windows will try to find the drivers and will attempt to install them.

5. Remove test point wire from the test point now.

PC will fail to install drivers automatically. Now, follow the steps taking help of the screenshots given below to install the drivers automatically.

Unlocked my boot-loader. What to do Now?

Let's Install a Custom Kernel
Download any kernel from the development section. It will come as a single file
Code:

1. Open up Flashtool and follow the steps as shown (position of mouse shows where to click):

the test point cable attached on the microUSB male right??

I've found different step on creating test point cable.
Their methode told me to attach the other side on the battery's negative socket/ground.

Yea. Its 100% safe. I tried it myself.

You can connect the ground and one end of the wire too, but that's a bit complicated.
This is simpler.
I tried it myself. Puppet13th did the same way. And so did many other people.

Thanks,
Rick

Is It? As far as my knowlege goes, unlocking bootloader when not allowed, will not let you enter flashboot mode.

Thanks,
Rick

Both ways are possible.
The outer metal part of the microUSB is also ground, so it will also work.
You can also connect it to the battery ground, if you want. Which one is better for you.

yep,,,it simpler than connect the cable on the battery's socket.

just wrap the cable on the microUSB cable right?
there aren't any special tricks on wrapping the cable?

I'm sorry for asking to much
Just to make sure anything checked, before I try to unlock

NO. NO specal tricks :D

So you just need to ensure connectivity. And that's it.

Other Test Point Pictures are there on the Internet.
But I can get clearer pictures for Xperia Mini Pro, and Arc S myself by tommorow. So other than those, if someone can give me clear pictures (as puppet13th did), it will be extremely helpful.

Thanks,
Rick

It's not at all risky. You can do it without any fear. I promise.

While doing it myself, I even spilled coffee on my phone. Still I could do it. :D.
Just sit with a cool head and in a cool place, and all should be fine. :)
