I noticed that too. The key word there is charging. USB 3.0 puts out a whole lot more current than the old 500ma of the old USB 2.0. The G2 will probably use the 2A charging profile on USB 3.0. I am hoping for the release of a proprietary USB 3.0 cable that reaches the extra pins and delivers 3.0 speeds on the G2.
Additionally I have done a little more research and unfortunately it does not look like the Nexus 5 will have this connector. From the Nexus 5 tear down photos the micro USB connector looks to be much more shallow than the tear down pics of the G2. I was hoping the Nexus 5 would have this connector to gain more support and hopefully push the necessary cable to the market sooner.
Ok well. I'll just keep looking.
