Umm, speaking of your Vader boot. Any chance you have the mask screen you used. I flashed a different kernel which changed the Vader mask loading screen, and I'm kind of partial to the theme concept you went with.

Sent from a Galaxy faster then yours.

You can't change the 1st splash image without recompiling the kernel. Its not as simple as bootanimation. Whatever image came with the kernel you use is the one you're stuck with unless you have the source and know how to compile the kernel. Sorry can't help you with this one..

Long time lurker, first time poster on this thread. XDA wouldn't let me post in the development section until I built up my post count elsewhere, so that's what I did to be able to post here.

I've been using the various versions of this ROM since it was first released to the public and I want to echo the positive sentiments that other members have been posting here. Good stuff.

Personally, I've always flashed with the -wipe option and just used it as is... I'm not that fussy about mods and themes and all that. It's 99% of what I'd want to see in ROM straight out of the zip, so that's plenty good enough for me to just flash it and use it. I appreciate TDJ's desire to leave it as stock as possible, but some users will always want something slightly different to suit their preferences and can never be too sure if some mod out there will work with this particular ROM. As a result, the thread is filled with questions along this line. With this in mind, I had an idea/suggestion I wanted to share here...

Have a separate mod zip file with various features and tweaks that can be enabled or disabled with flag switches. That way, the user can just add or remove certain things "a la carte" without having TDJ release a whole new ROM for this or that feature. To give an example of what I mean.... the user flashes the actual ROM first, then a MODS.zip that might look like...

DS.DW.MODS-notw-volwake-googleicons-transparentnotify-icsbootanim-whatever.zip

That would allow TDJ to pursue development with the "as stock as possible" philosophy and still satisfy some users without too much fuss. I know TDJ also said he likes to fly solo, but separating it out this way might let him take on a "junior dev" who would just be responsible for just this part of the DW package. He can then focus on the guts of the ROM that make it great and allow someone else to handle the other fluffy stuff.

Granted, I'm not familiar with the technical underpinnings that would make all this possible, so it might not be worth the effort. I just thought something along these lines would provide the best of both worlds and keep everyone happy.

Finally... talk is cheap, so I made a donation for you to have a couple brews on me. Thanks and keep up the good work.

Thanks for the donation. And I appreciate your input with the flags. The trouble is it become overly complex for most users and gives me a headache. I have used multiple flags in another device and its a mistake. Not saying that I will not implent any other flags as I see need be, but nothing to extravagant.

Has anyone tried using gideon's script to undervolt with this kernel/ROM? Since the global undervolt was removed for stability purposes, I'd like to try undervolting with this.

Been running 2.4 with no problems I love it! Thanks TDJ .. just wondering one thing if its possible for future builds. Is there a way to have the notification repeat somehow? Its sucks that Samsung didn't think of that .. I just hate getting a text and the phone only rings or vibrates once. I currently use the missed text reminder app for that, but would love a more seemless way of doing so. Once again just wondering ;)
Thanks again for the great rom!

Here's the link for app I use if anyone else is interested

Oh, I didn't mean it like that. I can change the bootanimation.zip...I do it a lot, same with the splash screen. I was more so asking for your Darkside boot up screen file. I want it back...I know how to put it back in, Lol. Love your Rom so much, and just really thought that was a cool screen when I first flashed 2.3. Now running 2.4 of course, Lol.

I'm on the same boat as you. Wish Samsung included a small led for missed calls or messages. I was wondering if there is a way to have the soft keys pulse when a message or call is missed.

if you still have the rom, why dont you extract it from there? just look in the Kernel and you should see the file.

It's called BLN Pro in the market. Soft keys light up when you missed calls/texts, etc. and with Pro, they even pulse. Hope this helps. And, btw, darkside kernel supports BLN (stands for back light notification).

+1

Also, this is the best ROM/kernel for using this feature, with most BLN doesn't work with the stock SMS app, you would have to use handcent/go SMS; this one has support built in. It activates for missed emails, SMS, and calls (call is in BLN control pro only)

Black List

I asked this a couple of weeks ago but never saw an answer.

Is there a way to manually back up your "Black List" so you can restore after a wipe? What is the filename and where is it located? I get tired of having to re-black list numbers.

Thanks

Call > call rejection > auto reject list is what youbare talking about right?

I keep a list of contacts called SPAM. Numbers in spam are sent straight to voicemail.

Does the built in blacklist feature send calls directly to voicemail?

Yes, it sends them to voice mail without ringing your phone. I have a couple of stalker chicks I have to "send to timeout," and hate having to re-blacklist them every time. Also the damn robo calls and whatnots. I just want to be able to either export my blacklist and re-import into new rom, or find the blacklist data file and drop it back in new rom.

If I'm not mistaken using Titanium Backup you can backup the system app "call settings" which saves all of the blacklisted numbers as well as the rest of the call settings.

I just wonder how much this would screw things up if restored to a new rom / kernel...

Well... the stories go either way. Either great and wonderful or wow, I shouldn't have done that! I have had both happen to me. More so back with the Nexus One than with the GS2. Provided the system apps are the same saving and restoring the data from individual apps such as this one "SHOULD" be ok. Most of the time it is said to never restore system data only user apps and data, but I rarely have any problem doing full restores from TB (On this device). Usually if a problem occurs it's self inflicted and not TB related. Nandroid and check it out.

hey guys galaxy sII noob here I've flashed phones before so i have experience just not on the s2 my bro wants me to flash it for him and i don't want to ruin his machine so i have a couple questions

i plan on rooting using this guide http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1514434

unless you guys recommend a different way that's better or easier.

im running stock 2.3.6 atm now the guide says after you odin you have to boot into CWM and flash a rooted rom so questions

1. can i flash this rom at that ^^ step? or do i have to flash a different rom first and then this one?

2. is it easier to instead to boot into CWM flash the Superuser-3.0.7-d-signed.zip file from the guide which grants root. then boot up, reboot into recovery and finally flash this rom?

also if i make no sense please correct me like i said i don't want to mess up his phone.

Once you flash the recovery, you can just boot onto it and flash the rom.

No its not necessary to flash the su file then the rom. Just install the recovery and flash away. Make sure you read the OP's installation instructions and understand what to do.

    Working:
    • DATA
    • MMS
    • WIFI
    • WIFI CALLING
    • MMS OVER WIFI/WIFI CALLING
    • GPS
    • BLUETOOTH
    • WIRELESS TETHER
    • USB TETHER

    Known Issues:
    • You tell me...

    TOUCH Includes:
    -Default install with no flags
    • TouchWiz UI
    • All stock Samsung apps

    TOUCHLESS Includes:
-Installed using '-notw' flag at end of file name
    • Removes TouchWiz UI
    • Zeam Launcher
    • Removes most Samsung apps

    Add flags to filename:

An adaptation of @waydownsouth's script, I have modified and created a script that allows for flexibility with how I can create and user can install a ROM. *PLEASE READ* this next section carefully and only proceed with a full understanding of what you are about to do. Ask any questions within the thread before doing so...

    Available flags:
    • -wipe
    • -notw
    • -twmod
    • -nobatt
    • -volwake
What SUPER DARKSIDE WIPE flag does:
    • -wipe = A full wipe that is much more through and is HIGHLY suggested over any wipe options in recovery menu. It will also format partitions to EXT4 (NOTE: THIS WILL DELETE ALL USER DATA! DOESN'T TOUCH SD CARD/EMMC!)
    • -notw = (No TouchWiz - TOUCHLESS) This will remove the TouchWiz UI and mostly all Samsung apps and Widgets. I left some of the more requested apps in. By not adding this flag you will get a STOCK KL1 Build.
    • -twmod = Installs a 5x4x5 modified TW Launcher. (See screen shot below)
    • -nobatt = Completely disables the 100% battery pop-up and notification.
    • -volwake = Enables volume buttons to wake the device (Just as power button)
If no -wipe flag is added to the end of file name it will not wipe...

Adding flags to the file name:

    If default file name is:
    Code:
    [B]DARKSIDE.DIGITAL.WARFARE_v2_TDJ.zip[/B]

To perform a SUPER.DARKSIDE.WIPE by adding -wipe flag to end of file name:
    Code:
    [B]DARKSIDE.DIGITAL.WARFARE_v2_TDJ[B][COLOR="red"]-wipe[/COLOR][/B].zip[/B]

To flash a TOUCHLESS ROM and perform a SUPER.DARKSIDE.WIPE by adding -notw and -wipe flag to end of file name:
    Code:
    [B]DARKSIDE.DIGITAL.WARFARE_v2_TDJ[B][COLOR="red"]-wipe-notw[/COLOR][/B].zip[/B]

Get IT??? Its as simple as adding available flag to the end of the file name.

*PLEASE NOTE* The file name must also contain no spaces or else it will not work!!

    Kernel Info:
    • Kernel base: 2.6.35.14
    • Included Version: DARKSIDE X v2 RC2 *UNRELEASED* - lets keep it that way for now...
More info found in my other thread [HERE]

    My Gitorious: [HERE]

    Instructions on flashing DIGITAL.WARFARE:

    * FULL WIPE ALWAYS *

    1. BACKUP ALL APPS with preferred method (ie: Titanium, My Backup, etc..)
    2. Download ROM
*I HIGHLY suggest chaning file name on your comp and not in recovery if possible.. Could save you a headache!*
    3. Set FLAGS
    4. Place ROM on ROOT of your SD card.
    4. Boot into Recovery Mode
    5. Do a NAND BACKUP!!!
    6. Flash ROM.
    7. After flashing is complete, Reboot...
    8. Done!

What i am am about to say is real talk. v2.6 is going to update to my new v3 kernel. I rebased off the latest skyrocket source that was released in the end of February. If you don't things could get and more smooth, snappy, and more battery efficient.. you're in for a treat! I also will be including a script that can set a predefined profile, you may have seen screen shots I have posted. No eta on release so don't ask.. not sure what other changes, if any, will be included.

I also have to say that this board is in rough shape. A lot people think I like to "troll" these boards and cause drama. I just want to clear this up and let people know that I am only looking out for the better of the community. A lot of people here don't really know a lot of the technical sides of android and our device. I really hate to see people get screwed over by someone that really doesn't have a clue but needs to try and feel important on xda. I am honestly looking out for our community and try to weed out the garbage as best I can. I don't care what people think of me and I don't care what people say. I do what I say and say what I do. I have contributed plenty to this board and never leave you guys hanging. Honestly outside team kang there hasn't been much actual development since I migrated over here. I appricate that people are eager to learn, but its a damn shame the ego that comes along with having your own thread...

With v2.6 I think its going to be time to take a break because honestly, **** is ridiculous over here. OK vent over... carry on my dudes
