4.2 if ever, I am running 4.1.2, and few things are there, but few are gone. I did like the ripple effect on my S3/Note2 for example.

This is the situation where WANT and NEED clashes :−) (my opinion).
My phone running smoothly and battery is great (21% now since yday morning), and tbh I am happy with it.
But if you want root it, I think for now only older versions are rootable... Patience is the key. Soon there will be solution for current ROM as well.
