why is it moot?
because (1) you usually can't OTA update a custom rom anyways on stock samsung roms; (2) there is likely to never be another update for this device, and if there is it is likely to be very minor; (3) if you were to OTA this slim rom, it would become a standardized stock rom; and (4) you can pull it from the full LTA odin image if you need it
it is exceeding the scope of this rom. the intention, as i understand it, is to create a slim version of the stock rom.
if you want the stock rom, or things from it, you can get the full odin flashable .tar.md5 file from sammobile.com

Samsung started putting things in the preload partition to save space in the system/app partition
there are symbolic links between the two
there is no difference for any particular reason of placement, its just by design.
