Probably a noob question but will this method work for hboot 2.02, build # 3.30.651.3, with Radio_2.15.00.09.01 and hardware 0004? I did some seach on the forum but didn't find a confirmed solution. Thx!

It worked on my hardware 004 evo. It is a brand new one that came stock with the newest update. So it should work there is no harm in trying. The only problem I ran into is. The clockwork mod it flashes to recovery. Did not work for me so i had to flash this http://www.multiupload.com/H89AODJPP5. From this thread http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=829045. under fix broken recovery.

I feel like an idiot, but the phone booted into clockworkmod recovery.. I highlight reboot system.. what do I hit to "select" what I've highlighted? I had another android device before that had a trackball so I'd just push that.. no idea on the evo

seriously?

Apple user? You are very obviously a dedicated wincrap user. It shows in your mentality. I think that post was way off topic (and so is this.. I just couldn't resist. And that's coming from a guy that's had every version of wincrap ever developed and has forgotten more about wincrap than you'll ever learn)

Windows, Linux, MAC, or whatever OSe all have their pluses and minuses. They all howeve have one thing in common: a tool to help get work done. If you don't like one, use the other. But no need to diss on any because that's like an insult on the numerous devs who worked hard to bring us these tools.

Me I'm just thankful I have the choices to pick and choose whatever OS worked best for each environment I need to use it in.

Didn't work

it saw my evo and ran for a while...

" but ends up with an "Internal error: an reported error starting service"

almost too simple since I don't know what the error is?

Noob here

I just purchased brand new never opened Evo and I want to root. With is app, do I need any prerequisites? I am not afraid of the dark side (terminal) but really am just looking for free hotspot tethering. Thanks & Happy 2011

Which ROM do you recommend?

Zikroniks method is solid. To call it crappy is to want the 'it works but I don't know how and don't care' mentality) (Apple user, I'm guessing?)

When you use manual root methods, you actually 'learn' your phone, and is easier to troubleshoot problems. No dis to unrevoked, but zikronix is a genius, and to dis him, and all the support he offers is the thinking of a caveman/trogladite.

Well said, I actually learned something when I rooted from Zikroniks method as a noob to the Evo.

power your phone on while holding vol down.

that is the bootloader screen.

look at top two lines. do you have hboot 2.02 or 2.10?

or lucky enough to get a old .97?

My Evo is hwooo3, hboot 2.02, with the latest OTA. I previously tried to root with unrevoked 3.22 (dumb, I know) and it obviously didn't work. My phone (and 4g) still work perfectly. I had read that if I previously tried to root I may have problems doing it now with the latest version of unrevoked. Any truth to this or should I be good to go?

hanged on "waiting for device" on mac os

unrevoked keep saying "Waiting for device" forever! ive tried unplugging and plug it in a different usb, usb debug enabled, charge only, disk drive, restart mac and phone... and nothing any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

I can't seem to get this to work on either of my 10.6 machines (a MacPro1,1 or MacBookPro5,3) - both have odd USB errors, and can't seem to flash a recovery (the included CWM 3.0.0.2 or Amon_RA's 1.8.0). I'm on hboot 2.10 with the old partition scheme. I s-on'd and re-ruu'd before attempting, so the device was in a clean state. The unrevoked-forever seems to have taken, as I'm now s-off again, but I have no recovery, and no superuser. Any troubleshooting I can do, let me know (PM probably the best way):

Thanks Unrevoked team...Rooted my brand new EVO without trouble the first try.

If you want a guide, use unlockr's step by step guide on their website dated 9/20/10 and just use the new app on unrevoked webite instead of the reflash.exe app they link to. Worked for me perfectly.

Thank again!

    Hi!

On behalf of the unrevoked team, we're proud to announce the new release of unrevoked -- version 3.3. This version adds support for HBOOT 2.02 and 2.10, and also adds support for the new OTA, 3.70.651.1.

You can get it at our site, http://www.unrevoked.com/recovery/ .

New in this release is ClockworkMod 3.0.0.2. We and Koush have been working hard on getting ClockworkMod all set and safe on EVO 4G; ClockworkMod is now using the latest EVO 4G kernel, for one, and now has nandroid options to back up your WiMAX keys. It also encodes your phone's serial number in the WiMAX backup, which greatly reduces the risk of restoring the wrong WiMAX image to the wrong phone. Please try it out!

We'll be watching this thread off and on. There are a few known glitches; carefully read the frequently asked questions in the "More Info" section, linked from the page above.

Thanks for everyone's support and assistance -- and have a happy new year!

    UPDATE:
I just pushed out 3.31, which fixes a bunch of small issues that people were having, and backs down to Clockwork 2.6.0.1. This adds support for Amend scripting back in, but keeps all the good changes from 3.0.0.2 -- WiMAX backup, and the new kernel with support for new hboot partitions. I tested this pretty thoroughly -- I fully erased my WiMAX partition with erase_image wimax (don't try this at home!), and then restored it from a backup I took with Clockwork 2.6.0.1. My keys were intact, and my 4G still works. More detail about the changes can be found in the changelog. Thanks!

How do you install this if you already have clockworkmod as your recovery?
Guys just so you know in a couple of the other post for rooting 2.02 and 2.10 there are posts with the new Amon for hardware 003/004 and new HBOOt's. If you download the one from the website listed above it is for the older HBOOt's. Unfortunately the two different Amon's are not labeled differently and I do not believe he host it on his xda site or get it from here... This is the modified recovery just rename it to PC36IMG.zip http://www.multiupload.com/H89AODJPP5

so im guessing you fixed the recovery. because in my testing with the new version of cw...on older hardware with the new hboot it wouldnt back up squat...and there have been reports of people noting being able to flash things with the new version on new hardware or not being able to boot.

    thanks for the hardwork

Do you have to unroot frist if you already used unrevoked 3 in the pasted. Im rooted now with unrevoked 3 but not the most recent build ? also i have cw 2.5.0.1 now will my old nandriod backups still work if i upgrade to the 3.31 verison with the newer cw ? Thanks alot for any help !

unrevoked is only to be used one time. Once your rooted thats it. Forget about it. The only reason new releases come out is to support newer devices and roms.

Stick with 2.5.0.1 or the newest 2.6.0.1 of Clockwork. If you download "Rom Manager" you will be able to see the latest versions. I believe at the moment 2.6.0.1 is the latest fully functional. I am running 2.6.0.1 CWM and have performed wipes, flashes and backups with no problems.
