Is the method still the same (boot into recovery, wipe everything and simply flash a new ROM)? Or do I have to go through a different process now that I have an old version and want to flash a new?
Never do any wipe while Under ICS kernel, some are unsafe and may brick your phone!
The best way is to copy your new rom to internal or external SD card, copy a safe kernel as well.
First install the safe kernel (Philz kernel are very safe), after that go to "Advanced" and "reboot recovery"
You will find the Philz recovery, then chose wipe data, factory reset, and chose yes I want to install a new rom.
After the safe wipe process is finish, chose "install zip from SD card" and select the ZIP file of your rom you want to install.
Let the process finish and enjoy you new rom.
