Can I flash this right on top of the stock boot animation without doing anything else?

No you can't need to go to system/bin and delete "samsungani" after that scroll to the top of the page and rename "boot animation" to samsungani... then reboot to recovery and flash .zip
.... Edit: heres where I got the boot animation from rootzwiki.com/topic/12938-boot-animations-for-galaxy-nexus-updated-110512/... jaekar99 made the animations he's awesome

When you say scroll to the top of the page are you talking about in system/bin? I don't have a file called "bootanimation" in system/bin. The other steps I get but this needs clarification.

Yes systen/bin did you rename it ??

ok this is what I did and now I have the boot sound with a black screen.

I downloaded the zip file you uploaded. I went to system/bin and deleted "samsungani" I was then looking for this "bootanimation" file you said was at the top of the screen in system/bin. Didn't see any such file so what I did was take the boot zip you uploaded and renamed it to "samsungani" and dropped it into system/bin. Then I flashed your zip file in recovery and have a blank black boot with stock boot sounds. Please help man. I I'm going crazy with this ****

this process doesnt work for me, what ends up happening is there is no display on the device at all. you see the note 2 splash screen and then no boot animation. you hear the normal tmobile sounds and then after a few moments you can swipe the screen and hear the lock screen water splashing sound effect. no display at all, not even after android boots up. im forced to restore my back up to before i changed the bootanimation to get a display again.

i followed everything to the T. I think it has something to do with renaming bootanimation to samsungani in the BIN folder

I watched the video and this is exactly what I did:

navigate to system/media and renamed bootsamsung.qmg to bootsamsubg.qmb.bak and renamed bootsamsungloop.qmg to bootsamsungloop.qmg.bak

i then navigated to system/bin and renamed samsungani to samsungani.bak

then while still inside system/bin i renamed bootanimation to samsungani

I then went to romtoolbox and made sure the destination folder was system/media

then i selected my bootanimation from my local storage card and imported it.

i navigated back to system/media to confirm that it was there and it was

i then rebooted my phone.

i get the note 2 splash screen and then it goes black. i can hear the normal boot sounds and the screen remains black. i can move my finger across the blank screen and listen to the water moving on the lock screen. the menu and back buttons light up still no display.

im then forced to pull the battery and boot into CWR and restore my backup in order to get the display working again.

this happened to me 3 times while following 3 diff sets of instructions (including the video)

im on stock ROM with stock Kernal

Are you using one of my bootanimations
Did u rename it to bootanimation.zip

Do not unzip mine becaue they are not cwm installs

Im betting the one ur using is not formatted to the right screen resolution

Try unzipping urs. Then resizing every img to 720x1280 and then rezip part0 ect to bootanimation.zip set to store only.

all the image files are 720x1280, but im unsure of what you mean by setting to "store only"

where can i find a known working bootanimation?

This thread. If you nename the file to bootanimation.zip and drop it in system/media it will work. Mine are not cwm installs. Follow the op directions.

Also

Use winrar or 7zip to store only instead of compressing the zip

there must be something wrong with youre mario boot animation, since i followed the instructions in the OP a dozen times, and even followed you step by step in the video and all i ever get is a black screen. i have reflashed my rom a dozen times trying to get this to work. could you please check the 8 bit mario 3d ani you have linked for errors?

currently on jedi x3 rom with saberkernel

EDIT: it is worth noting that i can install other boot animations with rom tool manager

ya i thought so too. thanks for looking into it!

Itll be a while before I get to fixing this. I put a note that its broken. But I will fix it since obviously at least one person wants it. It is prolly due to tue fact that it is not a full screen resolution. Or the transparancys. But its only a few frames. Check back between the 15th and the 20th should be done about then [finals]

Use rom toolbox to install or rename to bootanimation.zip and place in system/media usingroot explorer

You must also
Navigate to system/media
Delete or rename bootsamsungloop.qmg and bootsamsung.qmg
Navigate to system/bin
Delete or rename samsungani
Rename bootanimation to samsungani

Further note, you can resize any png img boot ani using desc
If the imgs r jpeg you must convert them to ping then edit the desc
Change first two values in desc to 720 1280
Zip part0 and other parts n desc.txt to root of zip, using winrar and make sure its a .zip and your just storing, no compression

Thanks for the instructions ( thanks pressed!)

I tried stuff like that on the Note1 but it was more complicated (risk for infinite loops)

On the Note 2 it's working like a chatm ! :good:

I would remove those bootanimations examples from first post, so all the attention go for the instructions which are much more important for those on kernels without bootanimation support ( stock)

Place them on a bootanimation collection thread instead

Tks again for reminding me this procedure ( I knew it from my Note1 times, but it was tricky then)

.

Ive never played with the note ill take your word on that.

You may be on to somthing their sir. But first I am going to see about fixing the rotating mario.

If you happen to run accross any gifs or boot animations for other phones that are borderlands 2 rotating guns. Send me a pm with link so I can mod that to the note ii.

Over the holidays I will take a request or two if anyone has a boot animation they would like to see.

I may also be willing to do some from scratch work. Hit me with the idea.

Ok...

When I have time, I will fix that mario booanimation for you, even if I don't like it at ALL

Here is s nice collection from the Note 1 forum:

http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1460899

They are made for the Note 1 resolution( 1280 x 800), but they work fine on the Note 2 as well, without having to adjust the desc.txt file ( at least the one I tried)

Use rom toolbox to install or rename to bootanimation.zip and place in system/media using root explorer

Note rom toolbox defaults to data/local
This directory will work too but if u cwm flash another boot ani later, it will not take, data/local has priority, so change it in rom toolbox or pull the bootanimation out of the cwm zip [zip within a zip]

    You must also
    Navigate to system/media
Delete or rename bootsamsungloop.qmg and bootsamsung.qmg
    Navigate to system/bin
    Delete or rename samsungani
    Rename bootanimation to samsungani

Update, the previous segment dose not need to be done in most if not all roms for this device now.

Update, That also means that the following will not restore stock boot animation if that is the case.

Now if you want to revert back to stock
    Rename samsungani to bootanimation
Take _bk off the ends of the three other files.
If you deleated the files see the links at the bottem of the post.

To add stock shutdown to a rom rename bootsamsung.qmg to shutdown.qmg and place in system/media/video

You may haft to make the folder called video

IMPORTANT NOTE: TO DO BOOT ANIMATION MODS NO CHANGE OF PERMISSIONS IS NECESARY

If I helped you find a boot animation u like, please hit that thanks button

Further note, you can resize any png img boot ani using desc
If the imgs r jpeg you must convert them to ping then edit the desc, or resize every img if that did not work.
Imgs with transparancys MUST BE RESIZED
Change first two values in desc to 720 1280
Zip part0 and other parts n desc.txt to root of zip, using winrar and make sure its a .zip and your just storing, no compression
DO NOT ZIP THE PARENT DIRECTORY
    THAT IS EXTREAMLY IMPORTANT
ONLY ZIP THE FOLDERS PART0 ECT AND DESC.TXT TO THE ROOT OF THE ZIP

    Files to revert to stock

Well, I'm no graphics design artist, but I did make a new boot animation for my Note II. Not sure how to export it as a gif, but here's the video that it's from.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zS1cLOIxsQ8&t=0m27s

It'll definately put you into a good mood every time you restart your phone!

PS: Created in Boot Animation Factory, flashed via Rom Toolbox.

ok, make a boot ani from gif 101
    get gif cutter.exe for windows
    open giff and cut.
now get photoshop and resize each img to 720x1280 and save as a png
now put all that in folder called part0
now pull a desc.txt from another boot ani and repace the first two values with 720 and 1280
put all that in a folder called bootanimation [bootanimation/part0 &desc.txt]
    now get winrar
now open bootanimation folder and select both desc.txt and part0
    rightclick
    add to archive
    choose zip and store only
put that zip in system/media after following the op instructions for file renaming [if on saber kernel you do not need to rename, but perseous and bullet kernels you must rename]

    reboot

as a caution before you replace bootanimation with an untested one, makr a backup [if the boot dosent load you must restore cuz it wont kick to your lock screen]

if you do all this and no luck. let me know and i will try, but you try forst and see if you get this to work.

as for led colors there are apps on this forum and in play store to solve this. happy hunting.

just search for "led color" or "led notifacation" in play store

First. Did u change the names or deleate the files in the op?
Boitanimation must be renamed samsungani in those directions but u can delet the rest
To disable sound for poweron/poweroff you need to look in system/media.
To disable shudown thats in media/video

    Names are what they do

    Now your boot

    Put it on ur computer
    Unzip it
Check to make sure the imgs are 720x1280, if they are not you MUST change them to this.
Then change the first two values in the desc txt to 720 1280
Then select the part folder and desc.txt and right click and add to archive [I use winrar.
Then at that screen choose zip, choose store only under compression.

[Note png files that have no transparancys you may he able to just change the desc file size notes, key word may; jpg you MUST RESIZE EVERY IMG]

    Now drop that into system/media

    Go check data/local

Make sure theres not a boot ani their [or u can use this location too, it will work]

And presto your boot animation should work

If u do all of this and still have problems, pm me. Because these are the steps I take for all my boot animations and mine 99% work on various devices [8bit mario gave me some trouble <transparancys>]

I hope this clears up some problems for you do it yourselfer boot ani lovers

    Ohh side note

    Gif splitter

Reaize imgs n save as jpeg or png
Write a desc.txt or copy n mod one and presto, a boot animation for you
