I just got an email from someone who needs help with their Factory Cable. Below is the direct Quote.

My KF seems dead. If I press and hold the power button( whether for a moment or a minute) nothing happens. When I plug it into the computer or the charger, it flashes the firefirefire screen for a moment, then shudowns for a moment, then flashes the FFF screen again. It continues to do this indefinitely.

Any suggestions?

If anyone has any ideas for them to try I would appreciate it. Thanks.

yes - the battery is empty !!!
charge it with the wall charger for some hours

try to power it off on the wall charger by holding the power button for ~20sec to allow the kf to charge

don't think so - defect batteries are quite rare - there are a lot of threads from people that had this issue - was allways the same - empty battery - charging allways solved the problem

the repeatent on/off is typical - what happens:
kf tries to start - battery breaks down - kf tries to start - battery ...

UPDATE:

My customer in Bangkok Thailand just received his Factory Cable. I shipped it on Feb 6th, and he received it early on the 15th I believe (according to his email). So, what's that? 8 or 9 days or so? Well USPS states 5-10 days to any country so I guess that works out about right then.

Thankfully it revived his KF without issues. w00t

Thank you smirkis.

Well two more kindle user's are happy to report the cable worked great. But unfortunately one of our kindles here is being shy again (or stubborn lol) and not accepting the Micro connector. This is the first device to have such a inconsistent port like this. After thousands sold for Samsung devices and not one report of a tight fit its weird that I have had so many not fit the Kindle after only 50 sold.

Has anyone else noticed if the fit is simply to tight?

it's tighter than the usual micro usb cables (eg nokia) but it fits in
therefor i allways handle it on the plug - never ever on the cable (like described by SkOrPn)
had to look twice at first use if i'm plugging in the right direction
if your shure about the direction use a bit of force - the second time plug in is way easier

B63 Thanks for your recommendation to get the factory cable from SkOrPn, which I did and I got the cable yesterday. As instructed plugged into my Kindle Fire first and then the my laptop. In one shot I got the fastboot and now I am a happy camper.
SkOrPn-Special thanks for making those cables and making them available for user like me. It is a solid cable and the packing & delivery are truly remarkable.
Once again thank you for saving my KF.

Well peeps it looks like audiomixman can't get his KF into fastboot either.

Is there a guide I can copy / paste in all the pm's I keep getting by chance? I don't know how to use this cable but people keep asking me how to use it and I don't have the time to reply to everyone. Be easier if I could just paste the instructions lol.

Thanks

I'd be willing to write one as soon as I can get me hand on a cable. I think I have a unique case that might similar to the few whom are having trouble. My KF is actually NOT rooted at the moment, with a KF logo, and shell is gone. If I can restore this thing I think Ill be KF God, LOL!

I did quite a bit of work before I pulled CM7 off (which it toasted there after). Once I get it back running I'm going to post all I did on my blog on my website.

SkOrPn do you have cables available

Yes, I have like 7 left here at the moment, and 60 more on the way from Monoprice later this week. They did not sell as good as I had hoped but good enough to continue restocking the materials to make them. I am not interested in ripping people off so I only ask for $14.95 and I will pay for the shipping out of that myself.

If you can produce a really fantastic guide, and or fool proof how-to I can paste into any emails or PM's I receive I would be willing to refund you fair and square. I just feel bad telling people to look elsewhere when they ask me questions like that, but I cant be giving out advice unless I know 100% what I'm talking about. I'm a computer enthusiast, Samsung and HTC smartphone geek, and just dont know much about the KF or Motorola for that matter.

You must insert cable, then switch off kindle by pressing button about 20sec and press once again, kindle will be in fastboot.
test with "fastboot devices" and "fastboot getvar product"
After kindle will be in fastboot, with Kindle Fire Utility install TWRP recovery and with recovey install prerooted stock or CM7 firmware.

this assumes that the correct drivers are installed
watch device manager, has to be "android adb interface" under "android phone"
if not update the drivers:

agreed - to make shure it's the same procedure for all bootloaders (also the stock bootloader) the sentence should be:
test with "fastboot getvar product"
don't make sence to verify twice (just copied and pasted from elsewhere)

Hey guys I have 60 more cables on the way. This time I ordered 30 of them to be twice as long at 3ft lengths. The next size up from 3ft is 6ft and I think that's too long for our needs here.

So I will have 37 1.5ft cables and 30 3ft cables in stock here soon ;)

Was just thinking. If you used a female breakout board with a male breakout board you could essentially ground the male boards ground to the male boards vcc. And the female boards ground to the male boards ground as well.

This way you could leave vcc hanging (capped of course) from the female source (computer) side.

Hope this sparks some good conversation :).

This will NOT work, as the female breakout boards from Sparkfun does NOT have a breakout trace for pin 4 present. Only the male breakout boards have all 5 pins/traces needed. I've purchased hundreds of both and sold thousands of download mode JIG's for Samsung phones, and was forced to modify the female breakout boards to include a pin 4 trace for special projects of mine. I do not know if they since added the trace or not and its been over a year now since I asked for this feature.

Is there even a market for these factory cables?

EDIT: I know this post used to be how to get a cable from me, but I ran out of the actual cables and never replaced them. With only about one request per week or month I decided to stop stocking the cables. I have everything else though (new micro ends etc) to build a professional one if you want to send a old cable to me.

There is a lot of information floating around about the factory cable but there doesn't seem to be a thread dedicated to the topic. I bricked my device today so I need to make a factory cable. I tried making a cable but I f'd up the soldering job so I am awaiting delivery of a breakout board. I just wanted to gather some information here on the topic because there seem to be a lot of bricks popping up around here. So for now I am going to post what I know and ask a few questions here and there so that I can get my cable done and hopefully help someone out along the way.

When I started messing around with soldering a jumper from pin 1 to pin 4 i melted the connector, blah, blah, anyway, I screwed it up. Hopefully I will have more luck with the breakout (see below).

From what I understand, using the cable is a simple a plugging it in so I guess that part is self explanatory for now.

I got most of my information about the cable and how to make it from here. Lots of good info with pics and diagrams.

Someone in these forums recomended using this breakout board. I ordered 2 of them today so I will let you guys know how it goes when they get here.

My one big question is about the the jumper from pin 1 to pin 4; I read that some people are using a resister and I am unclear as to where the resister is being used and the specs of the resister. Please enlighten me :p

I might add some pics to this thread just for fun. If you have built this cable please jump in a post any information that might help.

    Thanks

BTW-You can buy a cable here but I have yet to see them listed as "in stock"

DIY factory cable out of a low cost microusb cable

I am really impressed with the images of SkOrPn but I didn't want to wait, so I tried to make my cable out a low-cost microUSB cable I bought on ebay and took some photos that can help other people.

These are the steps I followed:
    1) Cut the cable. It is very unlikely that the ID cable exists, but it would be easier that way. I see only the 4 wires of USB cable.
    2) With a cutter (and very carefully) "clean" the microUSB connector. This is the hardest part because I didn't know how the conector was and it has to be done very carefully to keep connector and fingers undamaged. I can see all 5 terminal, one of which is unused.
    3) Identify connector terminals. It can be done using cable colours. Terminals 1, 3 and 5 are on one side and 2 and 4 on the other.
    4) Connect again the 4 wires I have cut.
    5) Scrape the unused terminal because it is a little bit rusty.
    6) Tin unused terminal and solder a SMD 120 ohm resistor. I didn't want to place a jumper in case I made a mistake.
    7) Connect the other side of the resistor to 5v (pin 1) with a small cable
    8) Protect everything with hot glue
    9) Cover with shrinking tube

I have tested the cable and it works :)
Rebooting with the cable connected and using "Kindle Fire Utility v.6":
    ADB Status: Offline
    Boot Status: 4002
    Fastboot Status: Online
    4
Does anyone know if Skorpn is still producing these cables?

Until I announce otherwise, I am still making them. Or until I am dead...
    3
I simply used a jumper wire. No resistor used. I hear a 1k can be used as a precaution, but is not necessary. Without the resistor, it works like a champ. I turned off the Kindle, Plugged in the "Factory cable", and it went directly into fastboot.

PIN out is as follows on the SparkFun Breakout board:

    VCC: RED
    D-: White
    D+: Green
    ID: Jumper RED
    GND: Black
