Hi everyone, I've been meaning to post earlier but my health was bad over the weekend, and when I logged in this morning my ISP was dead, with no reason why (probably maintenance, they should at least tell me) Now I'm on EDGE thanks to them.
But I have good news! I have solved one problem with Android on our Fathoms, and it's a good one: the battery drain.
Do you guys remember Ajeet's 2.2 Froyo and 2.3 Gingerbread builds? On my phone, whenever I put the device on standby, it would be warm, and for 2.3, it was slow. At first I thought it was Google apps running in the background, but I close them, they don't run, but the battery still drained and the device was warm.
The problem with the Android build is a function called the CPU governor. Ajeet's 2.2 build was configured to be very fast (CPU on high even on standby), while on 2.3, the governor was set to "power save", the reason why it was slow.
To fix battery drain on Ajeet's Android 2.2, to speed up 2.3:
1. Search online "SetCPU". I will not post links due to XDA rules (do not post links here!). You will find it when you search on Google
2. Copy apk to MicroSD, and launch Android build.
3. Our devices are rooted, if not, search for "Superuser".
4. On Android, use file explorer to install "SetCPU".
5. Open SetCPU, on 2.2 I set to "Conservative", on 2.3 change to "Conservative" as well.
6. Congratulations, device should no longer be warm when on standby, and 2.3 will be faster (I play Strike Fleet Omega and Destroy GunnerSP, very fun games and good speed!)
I want everyone to try this with different settings, and tell me how your battery is. My battery on my Fathom was bad due to amount of time it took to ship to me, but with SetCPU, I only lose 20-30% overnight compared to dead phone without SetCPU. So, if your battery is better than mine, you will have better battery life than me! I forgot to mention that changing the governor also fixes the problem where, if you charge the phone while using it, the phone used to crash, now you can play a game/watch video while charging! (don't forget to make sure the phone does not get too hot :victory
Next step is to fix kernel, that is where the final Battery fix should be.
Hi, have you tried this build?
