Sounds like rooting is at least part of the answer...UPDATED - Good news!

I doubt rooting would make a difference, but at the same time there's no reason not to. (i had mine rooted within 6 hours of getting it out of the mailbox, and I had NEVER touched android before that moment) Maybe try rooting and flashing a popular custom ROM, Like Klins R5 and the Terrasilent kernel, at the very least doing the terrasillent (or any kernel available) along with rooting will give you the ability to use voodoo sound, and that alone is worth doing it for.

thats just weird, it reading in the other android means it should be good to go in the player.

No offence but it sounds like you've rooted your device and that could well be why you're able to access/recognise a 64GB card.

It's my understanding that rooting can provide access to many normally inaccessible features...I wouldn't be surprised if one of them is the ability to recognise a 64GB FAT32 partition...

Can you advise what tools you used for your rooting...?

Update - 25th May: Finally got the 64GB card to work. It was as simple as formatting the card in the player rather than as I was doing elsewhere. :)

If you flash any of Klin's ROMs that will work with the international, you'll already be rooted, as far as flashing goes, get the samsung drivers and Odin 1.85
samsung drivers: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=961956
Odin 1.85: http://hotfile.com/dl/141079601/fb98...v1.85.rar.html
and follow the instructions laid out by Klin.
doesn't take 3 minutes to do once your setup.

Worked in GingerBread for me. No issues once I formatted it to Fat32.

When you purchase, or receive the 64 gig card put it into your device and format it. Then there shouldn't be any problems, classes should all be compatible as well.

Who would pay for a class 10 MicroSD anyway, level 4-6 works fine for a cheap price. Especially cheap on Amazon and Ebay. :fingers-crossed:

what about galaxy player 3.6? Do 64gb sdcards work too?

64 GB "should", atleast in theory, work in ANY DEVICE that supports 32GB cards

read compatiblity with SDHC http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#SDXC

basically as long as the card is and SDXC version 3.0 (SDHC being version 2.0) and NOT an SDXC version 4.0 it WILL work but you will most likely need to reformat the card from the exfat (SDXC standard) to fat32 for it to be usable, some newer versions of Jellybean are being reported as working under exfat but that is neither here nor there as your 3.6 will never see JB.

How do you tell the SDXC version of the card? The Amazon product info doesn't list this.

I believe SDXC designation is for 64GB cards or higher.
SD is used for cards upto 8GB in capacity and SDHC is for cards up to 32GB.

Thanks, but my question was referring to what daniel644 said about version 3.0 vs 4.0 SDXC, where apparently version 4.0 is a no-go.

Has anyone tried the 128GB MicroSD cards now available. I can't see why this would'nt work on the YP-G1 but your on your own if you purchase one :)

There are at least 3 options :

SanDisk 128GB SDXC HD VIDEO SD 45MB/S HIGH CLASS 10 EXTREME UHS-I MEMORY CARD
Kingston Technology
http://www.lexar.com/products/lexar-professional-133x-sdxc-card

I believe that Lexar only has a 64 GB microSDXC card. http://www.lexar.com/products/lexar-high-performance-microsdxc-uhs-i-card?category=5778

The link you reference is for a full-sized 128 GB SDXC card

Oops you are right. After further searches, I am not sure that the 128GB Micro SDXC card has come out onto the market just yet.

If anyone knows otherwise, please post.

I currently have a 64 GB SanDisk Ultra class 10 micro SDXC card install on my rooted Galaxy Player 4.2 (YP-GI1CB/XAA). The SD card is running very well. I even have it mounted as internal storage for apps! Here's my post if anyone is interested in using their SGP 4.2 micro SD card for installing applications: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2234907.

Looks like there is a 64G micro SD by Sandisk. Will be good for my collections of lossless music.

Many claim that it works even on old Android devices. Just wonder if any Galaxy Player owners tried this yet?

    Update:

Finally got one. Similar to the experience of other users, the player will think that the SD card is corrupted when mounted for the first time. Once you format it as instructed, it will work fine.

I have attached a couple of screenshots below for those who are interested. Two of the screenshots are benchmark of 64G Sandisk (Class 6) vs 32G Lexar (Class 10).
