The Playstation Vita was going to be with a sliding pad like the Xperia Play or the PSP Go, but woth that design it had heating problems and Sony had to use the desing we all know for the console.

Atleast there is going to be app for IOS and Android which allows us to use our smartphones as secondary screen...
