With the built in kernel I get random reboots. Marmite 7.3.1cm is what I use.

I haven't tested the tethering yet but since flashing marmite 7.3.1cm my battery life has been amazing. no tweaks, just as is. Wanted to share and say thanks for the tip again. On the built in kernel I was getting between 12-16 hours battery, which on its own isn't bad - but this is pretty sweet.
