Default Upgrade to larger ROM chip?

Has anyone looked into replacing the ROM chip (flash memory) in their magician (or any unit for that matter) with another one of higher capacity? This would be particularly useful if WM5.0 works its way onto the magician, as it uses ROM to store programs and data rather than RAM.

I know this would involce intricate soldering, but if RAM can be upgraded, surely the ROM can too.
