Ok guys,

This is a small update, just concerning compatibility with Jellybean compatibility. Everyone should be able to install regardless of the android version.

I will continue working on improvements, and let you know how it goes.

Cheers!

Than you for the update. It works like a charm on my Huawei Boulder U8350.

It seems to be a little be faster but it may just be a feeling

Great luncher, simple and fast as light. Is any chance to add option "lock screen" for disable screen customization or hide aplications from appdrawer?

Thanks a lot and good luck in further work!

This great launcher has stopped it's evolution , nothing has been added to make it competitive as once it was !! @ Lowveld ... What are you doing my dear friend ?? You were once-upon-a-time a real creative genius , what has happened to you ??

I have been using this for a few weeks and I really like it but I found two problems with it. a major one and a minor one:

1. With every other launcher, if I select it's icon from Task Manager/Switcher, it will take me to the desktop. However, with this - nothing happens. This means it is virtually impossible to run a new app while staying inside some app.

2. The app drawer is nice and fast, but it could do with one more row visible. Too much scrolling with only four rows.

This app crashes (force close) immediately on a Samsung Galaxy Ace running Cyanogenmod 7.2. Works on everything else (HTC Desire, Desire HD, Xperia X10i, Samsung Galaxy Mini, Samsung Galaxy S) running the same ROM. Any ideas why? The only difference is that the Galaxy Ace is 320x480 resolution...

Has anyone got this app working on CM7 on a 320x480 display?

Logcat

Sorry for the double post, but I thought i'd post a logcat for the developer. Note that I haven't filtered it all, but all that was performed was a log was started, I hit the home key, picked FTL launcher, it force closed, then I hit home again, hit Zeam launcher, it worked fine, I went into aLogcat and stopped the log. Hopefully that'll be enough for you to make sense of it. I'm running Cyanogenmod 7.2 stable on a Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830. See attachments for the log. Hopefully it's enough for a bug fix. I'd really like to use FTL launcher!

Thanks man, it will be very helpful! I'll get back to you here when I reach some conclusion...

--- update ---

It seems that it is a library issue with your ROM. I would say that you are either missing or have buggy rs script libraries.

That is causing the opengl HW acceleration to fail and crash the launcher. You should also probably have issues with a truckload of live wallpapers.

Please post here a link to the exact build of the ROM you are running, as you installed it. I'll try to figure it out.

I'm running Cyanogenmod 7.2 Stable on the Galaxy Ace S5830. You can find the link here -> http://get.cm/?device=cooper

You are indeed correct about live wallpapers. They are totally missing from my ROM. I tried installing another ROM, CM7 Apocolypse, and I can't even get that one to boot. (http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1700749)

I get the feeling that this issue is related to my device. There is either something messed up with my recovery (clockworkmod recovery 5.0.2.6) or my SD card perhaps. I did a check on the ROMs I downloaded and the ZIPs were OK. I always do a full factory reset, including wiping the /system partition to make sure. At the moment, I'm feeling a little perplexed! Thanks for converting that logcat to English. Makes sense to me now ;)

Will try a few things on my end and see if I can get to the bottom of this!

Cheers.

Edit: update. I tried installing an Android 2.3.6 stock ROM, FTL launcher works with no issues. Re-installed CWM 5.0.2.6 and the latest CM7 nightly and it's back to square one :( tried downloading a live wallpaper and that force closed too. I'm feeling pretty stumped right now...

I have a feeling it's just related to your app. I searched this thread and there is another person with a similar issue on CM7. It appears that CM took out live wallpapers to save space for the small internal memory, but I'm not sure if that's the cause. Other launchers seem to work fine. Maybe a special version is needed for the Ace and similar devices under CM7?

Edit edit: Another update. Live wallpapers were not included in the ROM, so I added Livewallpaperpicker.apk into the system/app directory, changed permissions, and live wallpapers work fine. However, FTL launcher does not :(

Edit Edit Edit: I will no longer have this device after tomorrow, so I probably won't be able to much more testing for you. However, my friend will have it, so I could ask him in the future if he could test something if you need me to.

Sorry for another double post, but I've also noticed that if I want to create a shortcut of a file in ES file explorer (eg. to a PDF file), it doesn't put it on any of my homescreens. Any idea why?

Hey lowveld, could you make a paged drawer? :) It could be horizontal or vertical, I don't actually care (hell, you could give us the option to choose too haha)

Thanks in advance, its my favorite launcher and I will stick with it till death, but I miss the tabbed drawer from all other launchers ):

Another issue

I can see a few pages back someone was saying they get a black screen when trying to run the Launcher on a HTC Wildfire (LDPI 320x240 display) running Cyanogenmod 7.2 stable (clean install). I can confirm I'm getting the same issue. I have attached a logcat. Not sure how useful this one will be, no major errors in the log. All I did was start the log, hit home, selected ftl launcher from my list of launchers, the homescreen was totally black. I hit home again, picked zeam launcher this time, it loaded OK, then I held home and selected alogcat and saved the log from there. Hope this helps in letting you patch up some bugs.

Cheers.

Only thing this is missing is the ability to hide apps from the drawer. I think that option would go well with the simplistic desing of this otherwise great launcher.

- You can add/change the shortcuts on the dock bar: Long-press the place you want, and wait for the a popup to show, allowing you to choose what activity you want there.

You have to wait at least 56 seconds for this to do anything. In the meantime it will just sit there doing nothing. Took me forever to figure out how to change these icons because the thing I tried first appeared to do nothing. Maybe it should draw some beachballs or something while you're waiting, to show that it's loading?

    The Faster Than Light Launcher

Make no mistake, this is the fastest launcher you'll ever run. Small, light, configurable. The Gingerbread launcher as it should have been. No useless stuff, no compromises. Performance and usability are the driving forces here.

On version 3.0, most of the limitations on the Lite versions 2.x.x were removed. 3.0 Lite users have almost the full 2.x.x Pro specifications. 3.0 Pro users have a all new game to play now: The Pro version can use existing ADW, GoLauncher and LauncherPro Icon and Dock themes, giving FTL and unprecedented array of possible theming. You can even mix Dock and Icon themes from different launchers. Google Play is yours for the take.

The Lite version still has some of the configurable options pre-loaded that cannot be changed. A lot more stuff is configurable on the full version, check the Pro Version Extras feature list below. Performance or user experience are in no way impaired on the Lite version.

Important: FTL supports all resolutions and ICS, but only 800x480, 854x480, 960x540 and 480x320 devices have 3D drawer enabled! Also ICS has no 3D drawer because it does not contain the "old" opengl interface. But as it is natively accelerated anyway, 2D drawer should be very fast.

    Lite Version Features:

    - Tweaked for extreme speed and smoothness
    - Fully accelerated 3D Waterfall app drawer
    - Option to use "normal" 2D app drawer
    - Choice between 3 and 5 icon Dock
    - Configurable Support for launcher auto-rotation
    - Configurable Infinite looping of homescreens
    - Configurable support for scrollable widgets
    - Configurable number of homescreens: from 1 to 9
    - Configurable bounce effect on homescreen transitions
    - Configurable wallpaper scrolling
    - Configurable transition speed of homescreens
    - Configurable default homescreen
    - Configurable "swipe up" to one of the following:
    *show homescreen previews
    *open app drawer
    *hide status bar
    *show and hide status bar
    *open and close dock bar
    - Configurable Homescreen grid: From 4 to 6 rows

    Pro Version Extras:

    - Theming support: The Pro version can use existing ADW, GoLauncher and LauncherPro Icon and Dock themes, giving FTL and unprecedented array of possible theming.
    - Configurable support for resizeable widgets: only when adding them to the homescreen, you cannot edit them later.
    - Configurable Homescreen grid: From 4 to 6 rows, and 4 to 6 columns
    - Configurable Dock icons size
    - Configurable "swipe down" and "swipe down" independently to any of the following:
    *show homescreen previews
    *open app drawer
    *hide status bar
    *show and hide status bar
    *open and close dock bar
    - Includes anim speed: precise control over core Android windows/transition animation speed

    Basic Instructions:

    - On first boot, homescreens will be empty. Long-press anywhere and start adding stuff!
    - You can add/change the shortcuts on the dock bar: Long-press the place you want, and wait for the a popup to show, allowing you to choose what activity you want there.
    - You can uninstall apps directly from the homescreen: long press the shortcut (even in the app drawer), drag it to the trash can that appears where the dock was. If you drop it immediately FTL will only remove the shortcut, but if you wait a bit before droping, FTL will offer to uninstall the app.

more and more features included, im worried this will turn into a GO LAUNCHER alike

so many features requested, from people from GO LAUNCHER? :D

No need to get offensive... :p

Now seriously, up to now every feature added as no impact on performance, and that's my main concern. I don't mind adding stuff, as long as it is useful and does not bloat.

Even the theming was done in a way that it has no impact whatsoever on runtime performance.

But for full disclosure, here are my intended next steps for FTL, in no particular importance order, and definitely with no timeline or ETA associated:

    - Fix the drawer always starting at "A". There's a guy always *****ing about this :)
    - Improve the swipe up and down actions to be more configurable (like launching apps and whatnot)
    - On the theming side, find a way to change individual icons
    - completely re-do the dock code to allow more stuff
    - Add a configurable app filter, or some sort of means to build personalized app lists to use on the drawers

Notice that stuff like "horizontal scrolling drawers" is not on the list. Not that it won't be on the future, but I honestly don't consider it a priority. Also over-the-top effects are not, and will probably never be on the list.

Bottom line, apart from the items I mentioned, I'm very much pleased with FTL V3.

    Cheers

    New release V1.4.0 is out

So, new version is out, but for now only full version. Sorry guys, I will of course update the Lite version also during the weekend, but I have to get some sleep...

Also the drawer starting always at the top of the list is still there, won't be that easy to change that.

    Changelog:
    - Configurable Homescreen grid: From 4 to 6 rows, and 4 to 6 columns (must restart FTL for changes to take effect!)
    - Configurable size of Dock icons
    - Confirmed Froyo support

    Cheers

This launcher is much faster, and works better on my Infuse 4g than adw ex. Will enjoy seeing it's progress! Thank you for a great product.

    Thanks!

    hi,

Immediately bought it! What a nice app! Is it ok that i make a request?

    - folders in app drawer
    - resizing of widgets

    regards

Sure it's ok to make requests, it's the all point of this thread: Listen to users and what they want.

Unfortunately what you are asking will not be in next version. But resizable dock icons and configurable desktop grid will.

    Cheers
