The ROM I'm running is cromi-x but even when I was running stock I have been having wake from suspend issues. When I go to press the unlock button it will some times go to the unlock screen than go back to suspend as if it times itself out when not receiving user input (even when I'm giving input), other times it stays in suspend mode and I have to reset the tablet. Is this one of the common latency issues or is this just my device (or a ROM issue)?
If I want to change the kernel, do I need to reinstall the ROM or is there a simpler solution?

Sorry to be such a pia stickler, but I again don't quite get your question. Did you have the problem of unresposiveness on wake on stock and you still have it on Cromi-X, the other way around or neither?????
Actually, it's not normal for either: stock or CROMi-X, although the tablet tends to be slow on wake if you have Wifi disabled in sleep because it then updates email and whatnot on wake.
My suspicion though is, that you did not do a clean install, meaning doing a Factory Reset in TWRP before flashing Cromi, going from stock to CROMi-X. If I'm right, backup user aps and data in Titanium Backup, do a Factory Reset in TWRP, then restore your apps and data from TIBu.
Asus TF700 on CROMI-X - or miniC - or both. Kinda hard to keep track
