Earphone problem ??

I just bought this phone off EBay (Good condition no problems apparently).

I listen to music alot with earphones and use AUX for my car.

I plugged in earphones (iPhone 5 earphones) and clicked play for music and the music starts playing but it sounds like.. Acapella type of sound. I can't hear the main parts of song just like the background noises and stuff. I don't know how to describe it to be honest.

I'm asking you guys before I go buy a replacement headphone jack part.

i'm on Latest 4.1.2 JB Update.

the iphone headphones have an extra contact for the microphone. i wonder if that's causing you to get a bad connection. try pulling out the cable and putting it back in firmly.

also, i'd try a random set of headphones before trying to replace parts
