Has anyone discovered a good and inexpensive way to attach the TP-LINK TL-MR3040 to a tripod? I see that CamRanger uses a small bag to hook onto the tripod.

BlackRapid Bryce and if you really want to go cheap use a little washing net bag.

Try to buy the app on Google Play if you not did that already. This behaviour occurs if a non-official version is used.

You could try first:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.remoterelease

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.usbhostdiagnostics

It only gets a preview. You can check in the setup if "Image storage location" is set to "Camera Only"

On the second DSLRcontroller does not remember the WiFi password and the Android system does. On top of that you DSLRcontroller communication between the DSLR-stick or MR3040 which is remembered by DSLR controller.
Yes I bought this software a long time ago! But I cleared the cache and still no luck so I bought it again and so far so good :/

EOS Utility & DSLR Controller with the same cameraside WiFi connection settings?

Hello!

I'm searching for a solution to use DSLR Controller as well as the EOS utility with the SAME WiFi connection setting at my camera. Currently, I set up a WiFi connection at my camera and when I was told to start the EOS utility now to bind the two devices, I started DSLRController and the camera connected successfully. But to use the EOS utility I had to set up another (second) WiFi connection in my camera, and as soon as I was told to fire up the EOS utility I did that and voila, it worked.
But now I have two setting profiles in my camera, the first one working with the EOS utility, the second one with DSLRController. The first one is bound to a device called "GT-I9100" and the second is bound to a device called "DSLRController". I tried to alter the devicename of the EOS utility under /data/data/jp.co.canon.ic.eos.eosremote/shared_prefs/jp.co.canon.ic.eos.eosremote_preferences.xml (keyDeviceName) to "DSLRController", but this did not help. EOS Utility did not recognize the camera when the camera was set to the DSLRController Setting.

I think I need to exchange the pairing IDs also. But I do not know where I can find the actual pairing ID of DSLRController. It is not saved in /data/data/eu.chainfire.dslrcontroller

So I'm asking here: Is there a way to get both utilities to work with one and the SAME WiFi setting at camera side?
If it is only possible by altering the system files on my smartphone... no problem, it is a rooted one.

Many thanks in advance,
Chris

I've got a few of these for gripping stuff. It's for phone but works great with the MR3040. It's got a 1/4 20 female that will connect to plenty of photo gear and adapters.

Sorry can't post links yet but go to ebay and search for

Compatability issue

Hello, first of all thanks for developing sucha a useful tool for photographers, however after buying DSLR Controller I ran into the issue of connectivity. I have canon 70d and moto G, whenever I create a Wi-Fi point via 70d and connect my phone to it, I start the app and it constantly tells me that it can't find any compatible cameras...
Is there anyway to fix it? Any feedback would be highly appreciated, btw moto is running on kit kat.

Thank You!

got the app the other day and just recieved the MR3040 today.. worked pretty much right out of the box.

I noticed though there were a few glitches with stopping video recording.. I press the button and it didnt seem to stop reliably.. I tried shutting the app down and restarting it and that is enough to force stop on record and it seems to re open ok so that is workable if need be, but would be good to see it become more reliable.. im using canon 70d with acer tablet..

Video recording without connection

First of all I would like to thank Chainfire for an absolutely awesome app. It works really well with the TP-LINK TL-MR3040. I got it working fine by just following the instructions using the TP-Link modem and using a Galaxy S3 or Nexus 2013 to run the app.

There is however the following feature which would make it even more fantastic for video;

####
When using the TP-LINK and recording a video allow the recording to continue when the DSLR Controller application on the connected tablet closes or loses network connection. Currently the recording appears to stop on this connection but a preferred behaviour would be for the recording to continue until such point DSLRController sends a command to stop recording. This would give the benefit of video recording continuing if the network connection is lost and also allow the tablet/ phone user to only power up the tablet/ phone when wanting to review a recording which continues whether monitored or not.
Is this possible and/ or likely to be implemented.

####

For info I have found it works well for longer videos to install Magic Lantern on the camera and ask Magic Lantern to restart video if it stops due to the camera storage limit being reached. This appears to work well.

Thanks,

Paul

I agree this would be a very useful feature. I was thinking the other day that I would like to shoot a video with DSLR Controller, then exit the app and shoot another video simultaneously with the phone that I was using the app on, kind of like a "B Roll" or to provide a different camera angle that I can later edit and splice together with the main footage. But if the camera stops recording after I exit/minimize the app, then I can't achieve this.

Here is my hand held PCB Ring Flash Rig with my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 running DSLRC. I use a PCB Vagabond Mini Lithium on a belt rig to go portable. I have to give special kudos to the the RetiCAM XL and the Enlight Frio. Both have exceeded my expectations. Keep in mind that I hand hold this rig and rotate from landscape to portrait. This can create enough force to launch the phone and CC off their brackets unless they are really secure. I have the Reticam on a quick release mini ball head to allow me to quickly hand hold the phone. I am working on a idea to add an additional Reticam Standard by swapping with the Frio to hold my TP-Link.

Hello
Does DSLR controller used with with TPLINK TL-MR3040 allows that the shutter is activated on the camera itself and to view the image on the tablet or smartphone remotely ?

Hello !

I have a Canon EOS 70D and Samsung GT-I9505 with kitkat 4.4.2 custom rom.

I have installed EOS Remote and DSLR Controller.

In camera i have configured two wifi sets,

SET1 = wifi Acces point
SET2 = wifi Router conected.

With SET2 i have no problem to conect with EOS Remote and DSLR Controller

With SET1 i can connect without problems with EOS Remote, but with DSLR Controller, sometimes says me that can't find any devices, and some times connect but S4 screen gets blocked with DSLR controller screen without all options/icons. I can't manage app i have to kill app.

Any idea ??

thank you.

6D & 70D Audio Level Display?

Can the DSLR Controller app display the audio level bars for either the 70D and/or 6D while recording? I know it can't manipulate audio options but I just want to know if you can see the bars themselves while recording?

I would like to be able to use my tablet as a monitor while shooting video but since neither the 70D or 6D have a headphone jack or in instances where I am on my own but want to interview someone on camera it would be nice to see the audio level bars so I know if my microphones plugged in/working correctly.

PS is anyone using a v2.3 MR3040 succesfully?

I know that you asked this over a month ago and maybe have updated the software since then - but I just set up my MR3040 v2.3 with my T3i and Note 3 (4.4.2) today and it seems to work fine. Granted I have not used it that much but as long as the camera isn't asleep when I power the app on, it connects just fine.

In an effort to de-duplicate a lot of information, I have moved the bulk of it to the DSLR Controller website. This thread still remains the place to get support, discuss, and ask questions, though!

DSLR Controller was the first and remains the best app to fully control your Canon EOS DSLR from your Android device, through USB cable or Wi-Fi connection. No computer or laptop required, no root required, only a compatible mobile device, a compatible camera, and if connecting through USB, the right cable.

We strongly suggest you read up on the website ( http://dslrcontroller.com/ ) about what DSLR Controller can do, how it works, and how to use it, before purchasing. The website contains a wealth of information you should know before using.

Not all devices are compatible, especially if you want to use a USB connection. For a free app you can use to test compatibility, see the "Remote Release" app ( http://market.android.com/details?id=eu.chainfire.remoterelease ). If you need a refund, go to our website ( http://dslrcontroller.com/ ) and follow the instructions in the FAQ entry. We cannot process refunds through email.

Usage notes, feature lists, device compatibility lists, changelogs, FAQs, can all be found on our website: http://dslrcontroller.com/

Most questions should go to the support and discussion thread at XDA-Developers.com:

I am a professional architectural photographer and have adopted your DSLR app into my workflow. Thank you for the great design and amazing functionality. It is a pleasure to work with*.

I would like to know what the future holds for DSLR Contorller. I noticed you are not very active on this forum (last post on 2/26/2015), but wanted to encourage you to keep on developing because I, We need it!!!

    ...
    .

DSLR Controller was originally built for Android 2.x years ago, and a lot of things have changed both in the camera world as well as the mobile world. Despite bolting on many improvements, the code shows its age. To take it to the next level and get everything I want into it (customizability, compatibility, portability, speed, etc), a lot of the core needs to be changed, the UI needs to be changed (if not in appearance or functionality then certainly how it's been coded), etc. It pretty much comes down to not just overhauling major parts, but completely redoing it from scratch, and rebuilding it as envisioned from the ground up.

This brings with it a number of issues. It is a lot of development time (and thus money) investment up front, of which you will see no results, until it is almost done. In the mean time, you can't really release anything that isn't up to par with the current version of DSLR Controller, and you can't just replace the current version as old users/devices may no longer be compatible, stranding paying customers. A lot of additional equipment needs to be gotten and tested with to ensure compatibility and portability (remote and end-user testing isn't really workable with apps like these). Not to mention that DSLRs are pretty much doomed, and this is definitely being reflected in daily sales.

The past year hasn't been very good on a personal level, which isn't your problem of course, but it is one reason for the lapse in development of certain apps. This one adds to the fact that in light of the above, it feels like a waste of resources to spend a lot of time on improvements in the current app. There have been talks with a team (from a big brand in the camera world) to take over the IP, pretty much solving the resource problem, but ultimately that fell through, after the talks taking up a large part of my time for months.

Also, I know it seems like DSLR Controller has generated a lot of funds, but spread out over the years its been available, subtracting equipment costs, corporate taxes, wage taxes, etc, you wouldn't be able to hire one(!) half-competent coder for the money left at today's going rates, not to mention the risks involved with hiring people. Even though I do get paid and get all these toys to play with, wanting to build it has always been a large part of this, as there are definitely more profitable ways to spend the time. At the same time having to compete with $300 equipment, and people still complaining about the $8 price.

This app is also a complete nightmare to support, as by far the bulk of the connection issues are not due to the app itself, but due to camera configuration, phone configuration, hardware incompatibilities, firmware incompatibilities, etc. That is, excepting the case where DSLR Controller just hangs, which sometimes (but definitely not always) is an issue with the app. Not to mention the droves of questions and reported issues by people who simply don't understand how their cameras work.

All of that being said, I do believe there may be a business case where a rebuild with additional features and support for Nikon and/or Sony and/or (insert other brands here) and other OSs like Linux, iOS, OS X, Windows, etc using a shared core may at least break even. That is, providing I can find competent developers to do it (as there is no way I can pull this off by myself), and finding said competent developers with at least somewhat relevant skills might in fact be the biggest problem to solve. Still, even in the best case scenario, I don't believe any work will get started before end-of-summer.

Don't mistake the lack of visible activity for lack of interest. What to do with DSLR Controller and how to get there is something I consider every day, as in the end, it's still the app I've enjoyed most developing over the years. But if the solution means spending more resources updating the current app, developing a new one, or investing funds to get a whole new company off the ground with a handful of people to cover both major brands and major OSs - that I don't know yet. But I do hope to have an answer to that sooner rather than later.

(this post was written in a rush as I need to run for another appointment but I didn't want to leave this unsaid, so if it's jumping here and there and not fully coherent, that's why)
    6
Hey Chainfire, I was wondering if there was an ETA for the next update? I know asking such things is never liked, Im not looking for a hard date just a rough idea and if there is anything else we can do to help?

After next week I have three weeks reserved for exclusive DSLR Controller work, if that doesn't finished the upcoming update, I'd be surprised :)
    5
The price will go up once v1.0 is reached, but the upgrade is free for those who have this BETA???

Why can't I see free version?

Because it's good software and the developer deserves to get paid. Beta doesn't mean it's not valuable, it means that the software isn't very mature or well tested. if you want it now, you pay. If you want to pay once it's well tested and proven then wait.

Either way, quit your sniveling people. This is an AMAZING deal at that price. If you can afford a DSLR and know how to use it, you can afford 10 times this and would gladly pay it. If you think otherwise, you likely don't need this software to begin with and have nothing to complain about.
