The Pi does it all ! You have the Linux to tinker with, and Python og whichever you choose for "advanced programming". For the young learners there's Scratch programming. Its a graphical programming language. And with the GPIO port you can connect a diode for example, and program it to flash or light up depending on you program or choice.
It is a good and simple platform to learn programming on since you have all the choices in languages, but also the GPIO port for seeing a result on.
