Can you go to system/etc/init.d and then check what your permissions are set to?
When you go into the folder check all the scripts (if you have them) and make sure they're not set to 644 which is incorrect. For any init.d scripts to be executed they require permissions to be set to 755 (credit to r4z0r on this find).
