I'm trying to go bold here and flash ICS... It's my first time trying to modify the zip before I flash. I'm fairly confident in removing these APKs... but there's a few I'm not as sure about.

Blues need confirmation before I am comfortable with the label... Red means don't remove unless you're de-sensing, cause with it... Sense is busted.

This is about as good as I can do figuring out what these are by trial and error and Google. If you know what any of the blue ones are, let me know, I'll try to update them. At the very least, at least I'll know what we can remove before flash.

Go into recovery and factory reset / wipe data from there. That should leave SD card intact. Then flash ROM.

thats where i always do it. but i think it might have been the specific recovery i used? i've used amonRA and cwm, don't remember which one wiped my internal sd. right now i think im on amon ra

I think you may have answered your own question. If its working for everyone except you... Then..

1. Your not letting it sit overnight (or long enough)
2. Your battery is a POS.

If the battery is a POS, there's nothing I can do about that short of buying a non-official battery. It's the stock one the phone came with straight from the Verizon store in Woodinville, WA. I don't have the charging problem if I put the official extended battery in (which is 3.7v as listed on the back of it) but I pop the stock one back in, bam, charging problem comes back; which I didn't have any issues with on Gingerbread.

I definitely let it sit long enough. I powered it off and let it charge just shy of five hours, it still didn't get to full, turned it on and plugged it back into the wall and let it go overnight sleeping which is another 6 hours, and it was at 55% when I woke up. Unless the stock battery coincidentally broke at the time of trying ICS ROMs, which while possible is incredibly unlikely, I don't know what to say.

I'm starting to think it's not even flashing the kernel because of this SD card problem, though; which maybe could be the cause of the charging problem not being fixed?

  • ba-syncservice-app-signed.apk - Verizon Backup Assistant <- No the service for it.
  • EPST.apk - Sound related (equalizer I think) NO!!!!!!!! Related to phone updates via VZW. DO NOT DELETE!!!
  • FusionStockWidget.apk - is this the "Stocks" widget? - Yes
  • HtcCompressViewer.apk - Zip Viewer. If you have something like ES File Explorer or other useful file browser, it's not necessary - Are you sure about that? Are you sure its not used for other apps?
  • HtcCOTAClient.apk - ??? OTA Client Checker
  • HtcListen.apk - I had though this was the "Tell HTC" spyware, but googling says it may be related to beats... anyone know for sure? Its the HTC Music program!
  • HTCMediaAutoUploadSetting.apk - No idea Pretty sure for social netowrking that lets yo upload garbage to the internet no one really wants to see.
  • HtcMessageProvider.apk - HTC's SMS/MMS app - Nope, part of it though.
  • HtcMessageUploader.apk - appears to be Tell HTC spyware Not sure but believe it has to do with social media uploading. Could be wrong on this one.
  • HtcSettingsProvider.apk - ? Source for the settings apk.
  • HTCSetupWizard.apk - HTC's setup wizard DONT DELETE THIS UNTIL AFTER SETUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • HTC_Diopen.apk - HTC file, appears to be used by IME Keyboard? Think... Pen Input!
  • HTC_IME.apk - HTC Keyboard (should probably not remove before installing another keyboard) Do not remove before setting up the phone!

    ---------------------------------------------
  • Idlescreen_Base.apk - ?
  • idlescreen_photo.apk - ?
  • idlescreen_shortcut.apk - ?
  • IdleScreen_Stock.apk - ?
  • IdleScreen_Weather.apk - ?
    -----------Different lock screens------------

  • NewBayService-market.apk - what is this? Garbage? I forget. I need to look at the manifest.xml to remember.
  • PCSC.apk - ? USB to PC Pop up. Dont remove it unless you dont want to ever connect your PC to Phone.
  • TetheringGuard.apk - used by Verizon to monitor tethering usage, may block 3rd party tethering apps - Close... But not really, lol. It is the tether application itself
  • VzWBAClient.apk - used by Verizon backup assistant, if you use teh verizon backup assistant, don't delete this - IS the VZW back up client.
  • VZWInstaller.apk - unsure, but appears to cause no errors when removed - Needed to install apps like NFL mobile, et.

I answered most of your questions....

As much as I appreciate you detailing this list maybe it would be best served if you posted your own thread on this.

I can see people deleting things now and then coming back asking why things dont work right.

Would you mind moving it all to your own thread so you can support people when they delete the wrong stuff?

Thanks!

I thought I read somewhere that CWM was causing issues with charging while the phone was off? Maybe I'm thinking of something else, are you using CWM by chance?

Nope, Amon Ra; I've never flashed CWM on my Rezound. I'm aware of the battery charging thing with CWM, (which you can get around, but it's annoying) but that's not the case here.

It looks like having a coworker format my SD card in his SGS II fixed my issue with the SD card not being recognized by the phone in Android and Amon Ra, though. I just wiped everything and am installing the ROM again, and now it's actually able to flash the kernel. Sweet. I get the feeling this will fix my charging issue. <fingers crossed>

I can make a list of apk's I delete. It's pretty much everything that has to do with sense and some others. Works flawlessly every time and clears up about 55mb of space.

I thought I read people were successfully getting replacements from Verizon/HTC when they called to complain about it. Couldn't hurt to try to see if they'll send you a 3.7.

They are. Mine came with a 3.8 and I called VZW over the weekend and they are shipping me a 3.7, should be here tomorrow.

Based on this quote and a post you made before:

It seems you're misunderstanding something, or mis-communicating something to us:

1) Internal SD is the internal flash memory in the phone. NOT your removable micro sd card.

The phone refers to it as /sdcard/ , but it is not the actual SD card. The actual SD card is mounted as /sdcard2/ but in most of the ways you'll be interacting with the phone, you'll see it mounted as a subfolder of sdcard, the full path being /sdcard/ext_sd/. They're both there, and they both lead to the same place.

You should be doing factory resets, because that will wipe your internal (PHONE) storage so you can do a clean install of ROMs. It's the best, bug-free way. It requires setting everything up again, so you decide which is more of a pain in the ass (setting up phone all over again or troubleshooting strange bugs that nobody else has or can give succinct solutions to).

So, are you worried about wiping your phone storage to install the ROM? Or are you worried about accidently wiping your micro SD card? You should be wiping the phone storage. Should not be wiping the micro SD card (unless you want to).

Also, don't run superwipe without checking first to see if it wipes the micro SD card (ext_sd). Because some of the superwipes I've seen will wipe it.

Thanks, guys; good to know. I had no idea about this, I'll call my local Verizon store and see if they'll swap it locally.

    Alternate Kernels

I have created a flashable 3.13.607.5 Kernel and a flashable 3.14.605.5 Kernel for the ROM.

Some people feel that the 3.13.607.5 kernel gave better battery and cooling than the latest kernel.

Feel free to download and test for yourself!

These are in old school method as to make one simple step for everyone. This also resets mainver to 1.00.000.0 :D

    Instructions
    1. Download to root of SD Card
    2. Reboot to Recovery
    3. Flash Zip
    4. Phone will reboot to hboot
    5. Press power one time so it will scan the SD Card
    6. Install boot.img when prompted
    7. Reboot when prompted

    Download the 3.13.605.7 kernel HERE

    Download the 3.14.605.5 kernel HERE

Np. Not trying to bite your head off or anything, but wipe is always almost recommended.

You get to go off on someone and get a thanks for that.

I post a killer ROM and then a mirror by request and I get **** :(

700+ downloads in 7 hours and I have 12 thanks. Im not complaining... But really?
