What was the point in blocking the root exploit this late in the game... That kinda just makes them look like sore losers... Well at least we can downgrade with a fastboot cable, I don't suppose "adb reboot bootloader" works without root access?

I think it does. Not sure, though.

Does anyone know which Android Version is used in fire 7.4.9? Btw i just got mine yesterday, updated it from 7.4.1 to 7.4.9, rooted it and installed playstore. Everything works fine

EDIT: nevermind, seems that it still is on android 4.0.3

Can you please tell me what kind of root technique you are using? Mind posting a link as well (or sending me a PM)? I've tried several and they have all failed.

If you don't mind, could you also tell me how you installed playstore for it to work? Thanks much.

http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1886460 -> Bin4ry's root solution works flawless (choose method 1) Normal). -> i used v30!
but keep in mind that you need to install the kindle ADB drivers via Android SDK first -> https://developer.amazon.com/public...cs/01-setting-up-your-development-environment | https://developer.amazon.com/appsan...etting-up-your-kindle-fire-tablet-for-testing

http://x.chip.de/apps/google-play/?...teapps_detail_ir&p=3&os=2&device_type=desktop
-> these are the files you need to install the playstore

How to install:
1. download "ES File Explorer" from the amazon app store and grant it access for root.
2. extract the downloaded *.zip and put the three apk's on your kindle.
3. open "ES File Explorer" and install the "GoogleServicesFramework.apk".
4. restart your kindle!
5. copy "vending.apk" via "ES File Explorer" to "/ system /app"
6. set permissions of "vending.apk" to:
User: read, write
Group: read
Other: read
7. install "vending.apk"
8. open the android market and sign in with your google account
9. install "gplay.apk" and restart kindle

You're done!

Negative! I received my amz kdl fire hd yesterday, too. Had the update 7.4.9 installed before i could root the device. Now its not working, even with Version 35 of Bin4ry's solution.

Hey all,

I also have a HD 7" 2012 model with the latest 7.4.9 firmware.

Has anyone yet figured out how to root and install a custom Rom yet?

I really dislike this Tablet being a Droid if it cannot be a Droid.

Thanks

Hey!

I will get mine in the next days. I am just thinking if its possible to skip the setup at the beginning. Then it wont have any internetconnection for updating the software and try to root it. Just send all the files on the device with usb cable.

My second idea is, is it possible to downgrade or "unbrick" the device with a rooted stockrom. Is this possible without a factory cable?

Is the rooting process possible with a factory cable?
I mean do we have full control, independent of the software we are running on our device.

Is this possible, or should i send it back? Thanks for all your support

I was able to re-root 7.4.9 with bin4ry 33 option 1. Reinstalled SuperSU, then reinstalled the Play Store (Play Services Framework, vending.apk, Play Services, Play Store, following the usual instructions). Just finished it all, and it's working perfectly, as far as I can tell.

Edit again...It was my stupid programming mistake. Play Services does seem to be working fine after all. Ignore first edit below.
---------------------------------
Edit...Okay, there is at least one problem. One of my own apps that uses Google Play Services is dying when it tries to refresh the ad (I think that's when it dies). I'll hook up the debugger, and see what's going on.

Rooted Stock ROM 7.4.9 - what can I do now?

Hello,

3 days ago i got my Kindle Fire HD (Tate) with 7.4.9. Yesterday I root it with a prerooted Image 7.4.9 and the "KFHD System.img Restore Tool" (http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1951254) via Fastboot. After more than 1 hour (erasing userdate needs more than 40 minutes) - it works fine.

Now my question: Is there any known way to change the ROM to CM11 or to downgrade it and than change to CM11?

Regards
Thomas

...

I still don't get it fully.
My kindle gets recognized as an adb device, when i punch in the "adb devices".
But when it comes to using Bin4ry's method, it doesn't work like you people describe it here.
I get the message: "remote object '/system/bin/ric' does not exist.

what can I do? :(

I noticed that too when using binary. I replaced the adb.exe and the two dll files in the binary folder with the ones from the folder with the working adb. It would then connect for me.

CM11 successfull installed

I believe you can downgrade via the other images in that thread

Thanks for the quick reply. Now I got CM11 installed. First I downgrade it to prerooted image with version 7.4.8 using the "KFHD System.img Restore Tool". Than I install CM11 as described in post http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2128848. It took me many attempts with different versions. The combination with version 7.4.8, TRWP 2.7.0.0 and CM11 M7 was successfull .

THX!

I've seen, that many people out there have the bin\ric problem. And as you (and me) are not seeing the superuser icon,
we assumed, that we were not granted root.
BUT: Even if it doesn't show, you might have root already. Use the free root analyzer app to make sure.
And another advice: Deactivate the update funtion of amazon. That saves you from the need to root again ;)

I received the update without any warning. But the play store still working and every app from it. Root I haven't try it as I don't really use any root app. The Kindle is my kids tablet.

Not sure if Amazon has added any extra ways to push a OTA update in later versions but the best method I'm using to this day is blacklisting Amazon Device Client Platform (ADCP) from WiFi by using Android Firewall, still on Fire OS 7.2.3, I also renamed otacert.zip to otacert.bak (system/etc/security), not sure if that is successful but can't harm as a extra defense.

Amazon Device Client Platform (ADCP) has a lot of OTA entries so is the main service.

I'm also wondering if you could edit the build.prop to fool Amazon into think your running a higher update, but as I've already blocked it I've never really needed to test it.

don't put faith in otacert.bak, I did that on 7.4.8 and still got pushed to 7.4.9.

So after this update, we have to reinstall root, playstore and app, and everything work as before?

Yeah, I still rooted no problem and everything works as it did before.
