I would like to root my new phone without installing a custom ROM. That is all I am asking for. It has already taken up 5hrs of time today and I have got to this stage here: http://youtu.be/EE6F-4KjR9I?t=3m50s

I cannot figure out how to root without installing a custom ROM. Any ideas?

hasoon2000's thread is the only other thread I have found that might have been able to help me with rooting without installing a custom ROM. Thanks to certain idiots re-posting his work claiming it to be theirs, I am now left with a unlocked bootloader and unrooted device, with CWM Recovery v6.0.4.6

Please help!! (I am starting to get close to the stage of giving up with rooting altogether)

Just download SuperSU: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1538053 (the flashable zip is here: http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu )
and flash it custom recovery ("install" -> choose zip)

Good choice :D

51.0 is running beautifully here :cool:

Oh... I installed Android_Revolution_HD-One_31.6.zip worrying that 51 would lag my device out

Ever since upgrading my S3 from ICS to JB to KK the device became unusable (10 seconds to respond to wake up). This has left me severely paranoid about upgrading from the stock version shipped with all my new devices :/

Your ROM is awesome!!!!! :D (Tempted to go 51.0)

I would recommend 51 for sure, I updated to 51.0 when it came out (also updated firmware to 4.19.401.8), and I fully wiped everything, and zero issues for me, what I can say (for me) about 51.0:
* Super smooth
* better battery life
* better radio

also upgrade SenseToolbox to 2.7.1 has wonderful tweaks in it.

credits to @mike1986. for the excellent ROM.

Ok... The only problem I have now is that I will have to remove CWM and put TWRP on... I tried installing TWP earlier to no avail. CWM was easy as always.

Is there no way of installing 51.0 with CWM?

the latest version of CWM 6.0.4.6 could work, but I really recommend TWRP:
2.6.3.3: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7
or 2.6.3.4: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7ul

don't use a download manager on that site, because it will fail!!, and just to make sure check MD5 on the download,

then in bootloader/FASTBOOT USB:
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-m7.img <- or .4 whichever one you're using
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader

-> enter recovery, and install 51.0

How do I go about removing CMW? Or can I leave it on there and TRY to install TWPR again? :)

So now that you're S-Off :victory: and on ARHD 51.0 :cowboy:

Here are a few recommendations:

Upgrade firmware to 4.19.401.8
http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2365506 in Section 2
download this: - 4.19.401.8 : http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23329332407567473

fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip fw_4.19.401.8_custom.zip
fastboot flash zip fw_4.19.401.8_custom.zip
<- yes TWICE !!
fastboot reboot-bootloader

A few settings & xposed
Settings -> WiFi -> Advanced -> disable Scanning always available
(it seems to drain battery for nothing really useful)

Xposed -> Framework -> Install/Update -> Soft reboot, after reboot go back to Xposed -> Framework, and it should look like this:
2mx5305.jpg

Xposed -> Downloads -> update Sense 5 Toolbox to 2.7.1
6zxbhz.jpg

Xposed -> Modules -> make sure Sense 5 Toolbox [2.7.1] is checked
b9giva.jpg

now go to Sense5Toolbox and activate any mods you like, then click the "lightning" icon on the top right to do a soft-reboot to activate the mods
(Note if any mod was active before, or is "misbehaving", then uncheck, soft-reboot, recheck, soft-reboot, and it should be working now; for some reason, sometime rebooting twice worked for users having problems)

Bootanimation you asked about
It's the second one: "For ROMS that use /system/customize/resource/hTC_bootup_one.zip (Like ARHD post30.0, TrickDroid post 7.0):"

Marked as solved. I think I left it unsolved as technically the answer to my question never got answered or solved. I ended up rooting with a custom ROM rather than without as indicated in the thread topic.

Well, whoever googles my original question and lands here... they may well just end up rooting with 51.0, S-OFF and have an awesome phone at the end of the day! (Or week in my case! LOL) :D

LOL, actually the solution to your original question is in post #3:

flash custom recovery, install SuperSU using custom recovery.
