I see there is a lot of people who post in here who dont know how to Flash JVU before Custom Rom with ODIN
Either they get the Red wipe error in Recovery or just arent sure on how to use it, hope this helps you...

THE TOPICS HERE ARE GUIDES ON HOW TO FIX OR USE :

RED WIPE DBDATA ERROR
FLASH JVU 2.3.6 BEFORE CUSTOM ROM
MANUALLY INSTALL CWM
FEAMOD RECOVERY INSTALL
FIX INTERNAL STORAGE ON GT-I9000M
FAILED TO MOUNT SD CARD (E: FAILURE IN RED)
COMPUTER NOT CONNECTING TO PHONE VIA USB
UPDATE TO CYANOGENMOD 10.

AND LINKS TO WHAT YOU NEED ...... :D

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Red wipe error is because the problem is with the dbdata!

Install THIS FILE in the PDA section with ODIN and dont touch anything else!

DBDATA.RFS DOWNLOAD : If you need it ;)

Open ODIN
Click the PDA button and choose the dbdata.rfs.tar file you downloaded
Make sure Re-Partition is unchecked
Boot your SGS into DOWNLOAD MODE
To do this : Hold down the Home, Volume Down and the Power button
Connect your device to your computer with the usb cable when in Download Mode
If your device is connected Odin will recognise it
Click Start in Odin and wait
When the process is completed your device will restart
No more dbdata errors!...

ODIN 1.85
ODIN FILES HERE

Turn off your phone and put it in download mode by holding VOL DOWN+MENU+POWER
Do you get the Yellow Triangle?..If so continue..if not do it again...

VIDEO LINK : HOW TO GET INTO RECOVERY / DOWNLOAD MODE

Open ODIN and select 512 .PIT, and put in your files for : CSC, PDA, MODEM
*PIT File isnt always needed to do this only if you get the 3 Red errors*

Plug in Phone with USB Cable To Computer
In ID:COM it should go yellow and you should see ADDED in the message box

Check Re-Partition option and then Cleck PIT button to select: s1_odin_20100xxx.pit file.

Same again when you see S Logo on Phone unplug Cable
Close ODIN

Now, what I do now is go into :
Settings > SD Card and Storage > Unmount SD and Wipe that and then at the bottom Wipe Format USB Storage

Enable USB Debugging > Plug in Phone
Window should open up showing your phone Directory..
Copy over your ROM that you want
Shut Down Phone

Reboot into Recovery (Vol UP - Menu - Power)
Wipe the 4 things (probably know these... you should do)

Data / Factory Reset
Cache Partition

Go to Advanced > OK

Dalvik Cache
Battery Stats

Go Back > OK

To move Up or Down > Use the Left Side Volume Rocker Switches with Menu to OK Action

Install your Custom ROM from Zip Card that you want...

Reboot Phone when complete... DONE!

Please Check APN Settings.. for your area after you have done the following steps to give better signal
Sometimes Authentication Type is set to Default..try it at PAP and then Reboot Phone
As some ROMS APN settings are done manually for the user.. so be careful

Procedure To Update Samsung Galaxy S With Cyanogenmod 10

Device must be running latest Gingerbread 2.3.6 with ROOT to begin .....
Remove KIES completely from Phone and reboot Computer then Install latest Samsung USB Drivers then Reboot Computer...
Ensure that your phone battery is at least 85 percent charged

Cyanogenmod 10 Download
Download Google Apps (Optional)

Connect your device to PC by using the cable.
Enable mass storage mode on it.
Now transfer / copy all the 2 files to your device’s internal SD card.
Ensure that you are not keeping it in deep directory.

Now disconnect the phone from computer.
You then need to enter into recovery mode.
To do so, switch off the device completely, press & hold Volume Up button + Home Button + Power key until recovery mode appears.

After entering into recovery mode, select “install zip from sdcard” & then “choose zip from sdcard“.
Navigate to the ROM file (which you’ve transferred earlier)
Select it & press on ‘Yes‘ to continue. ROM installation process will start.

Wait for the ROM to get installed.
After ROM gets successfully installed, your phone will land in the recovery mode again.
Now select wipe data/factory reset & wipe cache partition to wipe all the data & caches from the phone memory.

The same procedure you have to do for installation Google Apps. (Just don’t do the above step i.e, don’t wipe the data after installations of Gapps).
After installaing both things, now press back button to land in recovery mode.

Select reboot system now from the Recovery mode to Restart the phone.

Usually first boot of the phone takes some time after flashing of new ROM so be patient....

Done!

Issues if you have any :

LOW STORAGE NOTIFICATION : HERE or See this LINK
If the above doesnt help TRY THIS APP
NO MOBILE DATA :
Toggle Flight mode ON/OFF
IMEI Issue :
Flash a stock version of Android for your device: GB 2.3.6 (JVU, or other) that will restore your IMEI
Then you can backup the /EFS folder.
NO 3G AVAILABLE :
The CSC you used is most likely not intended for your area.
This means that the broadband provider settings are not included and
need to be configured manually.
Go to : Settings->Wireless and Networks->Mobile Networks->Access Point Names, press the settings-button and select "New APN"

It is not possible to get in the download mode. I tried SDFormatter, it crashes every time i connect SI, Samsungs Ex. HDD Formater runs but no effects on the Phone. Odin cant flash anything (maybe of course of download modus).

What do you recommend?

Sys:
WIN XP Pro SP3, Samsung Driver, Kies
Samsung SI, Android 2.3, Vodafone (Germany) Branding, No Simlock, SIM insert (E-Puls, Provider), No Ex SD Card, original Samsung USB-Cable

What are you trying to update to?
Using the Format tool try with USB Debugging ON

>
Uninstall Kies and reboot machine
Use my HOW TO Files ...
Install Samsung USB Drivers to install then reboot computer again..

Open ODIN and Check Re-Partition and put in PIT File
Make sure all 3 are ticked...
Also put in PDA / Modem / CSC press start when phone is connected via Download MODE

Press start....
Then just follow the rest to Root it...
Let me know if this helps

If you are wanting to go to CM 10 or JB Kies is no use anyway...no one uses KIES anymore :D

Re: [HOW TO GUIDE] ★ Flashing Rom with JVU before Custom ROM + EXTRAS ★

Thanks for the amazingly helpful thread. I had spent amazing amounts of time looking for a JVU bootloader an could not find it. Now i don't need to as your GB odin files fulfilled all my needs.

Now to test out whether your section on drivers will solve my issues of connecting post GB ROMd phone to my computer.

Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app

Ok i am a little confused with your guide so decided to ask a few questions

i have read your guide down to after odin and this is where i got stuck

i downloaded odin and the odin.tar file on the page what confused me was this - Open ODIN and select 512 .PIT, and put in your files for : CSC, PDA, MODEM

i could not find the underlined files for these. also this confused me too

Check Re-Partition option and then Cleck PIT button to select: s1_odin_20100xxx.pit file. (make sure its on or off?)
Click PDA button and select : CODE_I9000XXJVU_CL851880_REV03_user_low_ship.tar (i only have the odin tar in post)
Click PHONE button and select: MODEM_I9000XXJVU_REV_00_CL1092175.tar (there wasnt anything there when i clicked it)
Click CSC button and select: GT-I9000-CSC-MULTI-OXAJVU.tar (there wasnt anything there when i clicked it)

any help would be nice before i continue
