@Tom Servo:

Having looked extensively at the CE7 CTP posted a while back, I can definitely say there's SMP support in there :) CE6 unfortunately does NOT from what i've looked at. But that's not too much of a concern as WP7 definitely runs CE7, since many moons ago :)

I am not MS, so i cant say anything for sure, but through work i have heard from both salesman and tech-rats of MS (last time 4 months ago) that WP7 runs it own hybrid rev of CE 6.0 with some of the CE7 added. When i asked why not pure CE7 they said it contained a lot of stuff aimed for x86 that was not needed, and rather than customize CE7 they just added what was needed in CE6.0.

Just for clarification da_g. Windows phone 7 does not use windows ce 7, its based of windows ce 6.0 R3 .. http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/ne...d-roadmap-clear-in-places-murky-in-others.ars

Windwos CE7 is stated for release this year but that is most likely not going to happen. this is one of the reasons why lots of features had to be mixed and merged for it to run smoothly on windows phone7. I am guessing sometime next year windows ce7 will be the official kernel for windows phone 7.

This article is from Microsoft just stating what i was saying. You can see some features where put off but some developers have the native ability to add new features like LG with its dlna play-to features.. When the kernel goes full windows ce 7 all apps will have access to that api.

Well those articles are really old and now that WP7 rom dumps are in our hands we can clearly see that the exes and dlls are compiled as CE7.

not necessarily. To some degree it is wince 7. But wince 7 is still not finished. Just like ie mobile is on wp7 a harsh of ie8 and ie7. Is exactly what windows phone 7 is. so yes the very core of the kernel is windows ce 7 ( which really is just windows ce 6 R3), but a few features are taken from windows ce7 like the app layer component of what silverlight runs against. The thing is its not yet a full windows ce7 but an interim to what windows ce 7 is suppose to be. Infact even in the article they state it there. "By the Way, Windows Phone 7 is based on the Windows Embedded Compact 7 core"
So if we are to take the core as saying this is windows ce 7 then i guess that is true but the matter is there are lots of other windows ce6 stuff which will get cleaned out when windows ce 7 goes rtm and finally is ported to windows phone 7. As of now is just a very functionally Frankenstein.

i assume it is not coincidence that ctp was release in july (?) and it took just about those 5 months for wp7 hd2 dft release? and then there is of course this:

http://cotulla.pp.ru/leo/WP7S/IMAG0202.jpg

so this is the starting point hey :). I am getting ce7 up along with riff box jtag, ida pro, and few other tools.

I may be crazzzy but really want to get this new bldr +- oal +- nk.exe to strap up (onto- ie ce7 as quasi-firmware) a ntoskrnl.exe build.

I have source.
