You must be on 100% stock odexed MD4 to flash this (rooted/unrooted doesn't matter)

Just posting this here for people to find it easily

What does voiding Knox mean? Boot loader flag goes from 0x0 to 0x1

Notes about Knox:
FLASHING A: CUSTOM KERNEL or CUSTOM RECOVERY on MK3 boot loader VOIDS KNOX
CANNOT DOWNGRADE TO OLDER FIRMWARE!
Composed of an OS side and firmware (bootloader-side) implementation. Apps (OS components) can be removed, but the firmware components CANNOT.

You can still root on the new firmware...but you can't flash a custom recovery or custom kernel, or else you will trip Knox

You have to be unrooted stock. It needs stock recovery. The zip is just like you taking a OTA update.

Go to this thread, worked perfectly for me

I'm in the process of doing this right now lol. I was debating on going back to stock or just waiting till one of the many talented devs figured something out.

According to the great minds here, it has to be like stock, it's essentially like receiving the ota.

Then I have to download 834MB file size in order to flash 495MB file size
Is it any way to flash stock recovery and make unrooting by supersu itself?

If you already have a stock rom and recovery installed and you don't have an sd card handy, it's easy to update the zip using ADB sideload. Assuming you have used ADB before and know how to use it on your computer

  1. Download the file and rename it something easy like "update.zip"
  2. reboot the phone into recovery by pressing volume up, home, and power
  3. select the option to update via ADB
  4. plug in phone to computer with USB cable
  5. on your computer open a terminal window and if you want to make sure the ADB connection works type "ADB devices" you should see some numbers listed followed by "sideload"
  6. flash the file by typing "adb sideload update.zip" if you named it update.zip that is, then press enter :)
  7. once it's done hit the power button to reboot
  8. profit??

So, I know this is supposed to be the official update, and I flashed via adb, but KIES and SprintZone don't seem to understand that. The two screenshots show what I'm talking about. These should both say "current" or "Up to date"

This is what Kies says for my phone. Samsung Kies doesn't know Sprint's update is available. Wait for the OTA.

Finally. Sigh. This has literally sucked away my life for the past couple days...but I win!!

You guys ready for 4.3 that does NOT require being on the Knox bootloader? ;)

Just an update for you guys:

Modem is pulled, making it into a flashable now
System is pulled, someone is uploading for me so I can start the rom
And meanwhile I am disabling SELinux in the kernel :good:

that brings a good point. will the new 4.3 update require the new bootloader?
95% that we will be able to run it without the MK3 bootloader

Otherwise I have a few tricks up my sleeve to get everything to work right

We will be able to flash the new modem though, as soon as I'm done pulling the files I need from this test device
    11
Huh. So the answer to #1 is actually No?

I inferred my answer of yes from CNexus' post:

Wouldn't that imply that we won't need to use the Knox bootloader to flash the rom? And can just use TWRP or CWM etc.?

And I guess question #4 would be, can we root it yet?
Yes that was the point of me saying that lol...meaning that you get 4.3, without the Knox bootloader.

    ---

I'll clear this up right now because there seems to be a lot of confusion. You CAN root on 4.3. BUT, if you have the Knox bootloader, it will trip the Knox flag.
What this means for us is that if you flash my 4.3 ROM, you have NOTHING to worry about, because you WILL NOT have the Knox bootloader.
All the issues related to 4.3 (bricks, "not being able to root", etc) are a result of the Knox bootloader. So if you DO NOT HAVE the Knox bootloader, then there is absolutely nothing you should worry about when it comes to upgrading to TW 4.3.
