It appears that a lot of apps are designed to write to the /sdcard directory and cannot move down a level. I believe this was also the case in GB? So my problem is that if I want to write large files to the external_sd / emmc I cannot do so. Almost as if there should be a symbolic link or a directory bind from /sdcard/external_sd to /mnt/emmc to bridge the gap in this mounting system. Am I wrong on this one or just missing something?

No apps that I know of offered the option to install to external SD. They always installed and stored data on the internal card.

I keep trying to install cm9 and I keep getting a build prop error? Error 7 or something like that. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

I had this same issue. I was trying to flash from mystic prime's rom to it and the error kept on coming up. What I ended up doing was I did a nandroid backup, did a full wipe, wiped cache and dalvic, and flashed another rom from the ported section - ShoStock. Then over shostock, I was able to successfully flash CM9. The reason you have these errors is probably because the build.prop is weirdly set up on your current rom and it doesn't recognize the phone as the i777, but instead as the international version of the rom.

Hope this helps.

Makes perfect since thank you! I know what I can do now :D

i dont think you're going to find someone with the no-asserts build... you can do two things, both mentioned on the thread, but ill give you the BOTD bc they are not easily searchable:
1) do as entropy stated not to long ago and delete the asserts from the Meta-inf folder. to do so, use winrar or like archiving program and delete the certs. note that if you unzip to a folder do the work and rezip i believe you will need to resign the .zip which is not an easy task if you dont have the background.

2) search the forum there are many who have suggested changing the build.prop of the rom you are currently running to build.device=i777 (btw i dont know if thats the exact line, but it is like that one) I would recommend this one

Has anyone else had issues syncing with apps like facebook contact sync or haxsync? I keep getting errors that the information cannot be retrieved (or I cant even add the account).

Just trying to diagnose where the issue is coming from (my end, or the ROM).

Correct, but quite a few apps give you the option where to store data generated by the app in other locations. If the app is creating a lot of data naturally one would want that stored to the removable media source. I have ran across this in a several different scenarios, the following being the most recent. It could totally be an issue with specific apps not being properly coded and I am sure it is but this may explain my question a bit better.

Auto Call Recorder (works like a dream) gives you the ability to select the location to save your audio files. The lowest level directory being /sdcard as the app has no root permissions making it impossible to reach the emmc folder. If /sdcard/external_sd was linked to /mnt/emmc this would solve the "compatibility" issue.

So I guess my question is has anyone else not had similar issues arise? Would anyone happen to know a work around for this? Have I just under looked and over thought?

So you are talking about programs that can save into the SD card. You can try to create a Symbolic Link yourself in the SD card, or you can just email the developer and have them offer /emmc as well. I've done this in the past with developers and had no issues. Specifically with my Atrix that I used to have. It had a unique SD card location too. ext-sd which wouldn't show up but just emailling them that you want them to offer that location as a default option got it added.

Quick Googling shows that apparently it can be done. Go through this link and see if you can do it yourself, that might be your only option

where do you live. the 4g to 3g "problem" is not a problem. that is what cyanogenmod has done since cm7, i forget the reason. but when data is getting pulled it will show H when data stops it will generally go back to 3g.

the speed can just be a restriction of the place you're living in... it really depends. btw 1.6mb isnt terrible maybe compared to a big city it is but some cant break a mb...

How do u get fb to sync?

Pics and stuff

I just started using Friendcaster this week because of the FB SNS problem. It has worked really well for me so far. It is kind of themeable so it looks sort of like black infinitum and it pushes notification which the official FB app has never done for me. So far it seems to be nice to my battery too and it syncs everything including statues to my Addressbook. Apparently they just released some big upgrade for it, I guess I switched to it at the right time. *shrug*

Speaking of this...it seems odd to me that Facebook SNS seems to work fine in AOKP but not CM9. I have a nandroid of AOKP 0403 and FB SNS on there looks like it is working. Maybe it is just a priority issue. Either way Friendcaster actually seems better to me so far than the native FB app anyway.

Or use 7zip and unzip. Find Meta-inf/com/google/android and find the updater-script. Open it up with an app called notepad++. Delete the assert(which should be the first few lines) and then save the file. Go back and rezip the whole directory tree from the top and try the flash again.

CyanogenMod is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 4.0 (ICS), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

    Code:

CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. CyanogenMod does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

All the source code for CyanogenMod is available in the CyanogenMod Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to CyanogenMod, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

First time installing CyanogenMod 9 to your AT&T Galaxy S II (SGH-I777), or coming from another ROM:
    - READ FAQs: http://teamhacksung.org/wiki/index.php/Experimental:GT-I9100:Frequently_Asked_Questions
    - Make sure you're running SGH-I777 bootloaders only (only the ones that are specifically released for the SGH-I777 -- official Gingerbread bootloaders work fine!) and a proper working CWM like the one from CM7
    - Copy GApps and CM9 ZIPs to your internal SDCard
    - Boot into Recovery
    - Flash CM9 zip
    - Flash GApps zip
    - DO A DATA WIPE / FACTORY RESET (otherwise your calendar sync will not work)
    - Reboot
    - Don't restore Apps using Titanium Backup!

Upgrading from earlier version of CyanogenMod 9:
    - Copy CM9 ZIP to your internal SDCard
    - Boot into Recovery
    - Flash CM9 zip
    - Wipe cache partition and dalvik-cache
    - Reboot

    STOP!!!
Did you read THIS POST fully, the FAQs and KNOWN ISSUES?

What I don't quite get is why there are nightly builds of this ROM but no fix yet to the audio bug.

Overall it is a pretty sweet ROM, and compared to the leaked ATT ICS ROM it kicks ass. The att rom is a bugging bloat ridden piece of crap.

The audio bug impacts the ROM as a daily driver, so much works right about the ROM but this bug in particular makes it a pain to use. Being able to receive a text while listening to streaming music and receiving a notification and have the music return to the previous sound level just does not seem like too much to ask.
Because this "bug" hasn't impacted any developers and we've got a ton of other things to fix.

ICS KERNEL SOURCE HAS ONLY BEEN OUT THREE WEEKS.

IT HAD FUNDAMENTAL STABILITY BUGS WE DIDN'T FIND FIXES FOR UNTIL DAYS AGO.

THIS WEEKEND IS EASTER AND SOME OF US HAD HOLIDAY PREP TO DO LAST WEEK. WE HAVE OUR OWN LIVES YOU KNOW!

WE DON'T EXIST TO SERVE YOU.

Submit a fix to gerrit or stop *****ing and wait!
    15
codeworkx's tree is untested - it keeps derping. Looks like I'll have to temporarily rip out NFC.

It's 1:35 AM, I'm about to go to bed regardless of whether it builds or not.
    14
TriangleAway can be used on ICS to reset the flash counter.

Video recording upgrades are not merged in yet - it's in progress. No ETAs, but it's close. Don't ask when, of course - there are many reasons why a patch that works on our device will get rejected until rewritten in a way that doesn't break other devices.

A major dock audio cleanup by StevenHarperUK is in progress. It's working on my device now, so it's a matter of getting through code review.

I submitted a new kernel to gerrit that fixes stability issues when changing cpufreq min/max limits (e.g. fixes SetCPU profiles).

I'm going to hop over to TW-land for a while to do some stuff, then I think I might play with NFC.

    Great. So 4/20 ****S **** UP AGAIN!

More mount point changes? Now all my gameloft apps that I JUST fixed last night are redownloading app data again. Same with my dropbox, as well as my spotify AGAIN.

Why are they doing this!!!??? THIS IS 2 TIMES I'M gonna have to RESTORE to get my **** right again. I mean, I get the first swap of mount points. It was needed to match other devices, but it's royally screwed my device. AGAIN!

Maybe some warning in PLAIN ENGLISH is in order. I'm about to give up on CM9.

get lost. your post is ridiculous. is this your rom? did you take any part in the development of this rom? NO and NO!!! how do you have any right to ***** or complain about something that you have NOTHING to do with? YOU DON'T! if you don't like it, FIX IT YOURSELF and submit it to gerritt and see if your changes get merged. either do something about it yourself or switch to a different rom. its that easy. no one forced you to use this rom. your post doesn't get you any closer to your solution so i'm not quite sure why you even posted this bull**** other then to complain about something that you have no right or control over. think about it.
