Hey guys I have had an android phone since the first of their kind came out and am well knowledgeable of the software and all the good stuff that comes packed in an android device. Currently I own a SONY Xperia ION (which I do not want to root for certain reasons) and a SONY Walkman series F PMP (NWZ-F806). The Walkman mp3 player runs on android version 4.0.4 and kernel version 2.6.39.4 (don't know if this information is actually necessary.

Now I do not have enough experience with rooting but I have seen it done with other devices. Just wondering if a root for the Walkman exists. I am aware that the SONY Walkman series Z is able to accept a root similar to the process found when rooting the SONY Tablet S. Though I do not know if this same exploit is applicable to the F version.

Any help would be great. Personally I rather root the Walkman than the ION, reasons leaning more towards warranty voiding. Thanks.

is the ADB working? you can push the files with adb, remount system as rw and push the files you deleted.

EDIT: you can extract the zip file from the updater. so you can get the file from there.

hm, not working still.

nope,ADB dosen't work.it's the problem.I deleted the OneTimeInitializer.apk,and double wipe,so now I can't start my walkman.
I find that the updater is copy the ROM into walkman's storage when it works, then restart.
but when the updater completed, walkman also can't work.:(
it's so strange,we can root the F800 no matter what location to sell,China Mainland,HongKong or Japan.
Isn't a matter of IP?you know that if we doesn't use VPN or GAE,Chinese can't surf such as Facebook,Twitter or YouTube.
and vice versa.

oh well... most phones could use adb after the bootanimation is loaded or something.
i have no idea. theres no way to unbrick it for no, i guess. recovery also doesnt let us use adb so...

maybe i should use it with proxy?

I use my galaxy note 2 to test the root tool just now,
and your picture means that your walkman had installed the drivers,
and is all ready to be rooted.
then you can use the tool on PC to root as the last pictures.
I also clear the our Chinese apps are so funny,
it should be so easy, but to so hard:confused:
try again,gl.

yeah, use proxy to have a try.
so,that to say,my walkman is dead?:crying:
a developer in the Tieba which the forum of Chinese characteristic named Walkman now try to make the F800's recovery
if he succeed,I think my walkman will be bring back to life.

the important thing is, how to flash recovery without the bootloader to flash image...
im guessing that will be like xrecovery. this means, the walkman have to be booted first. not sure tho.

Its ok. I dont need it already. Thanks for the system upload!

    yea no problem.
one thing i found out, i could just extract the firmware from the walkman updater with archiver LOL and it contains zip file and theres one file called hidden.img there.
not sure if it contains something useful for rooting but maybe worth checking.

probably not useful... i cant pull the files out.

EDIT: tar worked. got a tons of dummy files.

    I'm examining my xperia s dev/
I'm copying it to sdcard, but it takes forever.
Even checking folder size, it shows calculating.

EDIT: I cancel copying, head over to copied files, i saw in /dev/block/ a 5gb and 1gb file, others 0byte (maybe copying failed)
EDIT: I think its something unchanged via reflashing, factory files :confuse:

same thing happens in my gnex and also walkman, gn keeps copying but its a lot slow, and also its rooted.
but for my walkman, it just stacks at ptmx.
