Default [Q] Rooting and ROMs - A few questions

Phone: HTC Inspire 4g
Had since: March 2011

I see two tools that are recommended to get S-OFF- The HTC SuperTool and the Ace Hack Kit. Which one should I use?

I have a spare MicroSD card which I will root the phone with so I don't lose my data. Is this a viable method? (I dont care about the stuff on the phone's internal drive)

I plan on flashing the Android Revolution ROM. How do I go about doing this? I am a complete newbie to this.

I have no idea about which is the super tool. The best thing is to read and find out which one you feel more comfortable with.
Do not use the htc dev method. It is quite easy to unlock using their method but tends to be complicated to flash different roms. Before rooting, read read and read.

Once you are rooted. Download cwm or romtoolbox or 4ext, the latter being the prefered one here.
Make a backup of your current rom.
Full wipe: wipe data, cache and dalvik and wipe all partitions except sd card.
Flash the rom of your choice. First boot after flashing usually takes about five minutes on average.

Edit: I don't believe the htc method works with the inspire.

best choice is the advanced ace hack kit hands down, if you run into trouble there is a IRC chat to help. But read the instructions several times before you try it.

Well, I can only tell u that the Advanced Hack Kit is the only game in town for the Inspire. The super tool might work to give you temp root with I donīt think it will give u S-OFF, SuperCID and sim unlock...I am not sure thou.

The Hack Kit works great and you have support in case you get stuck, but it is compulsory that u read the effen manual and the op of the Hack Kit thread.

Take into consideration that replacing bootloaders is a delicate process and that if you mess it you can end up with a $300.- brick in the worst case. Gingerbread shipped devices are no longer compatible with froyo RUU's that where used to gain S-OFF, so I would use the tool that all inspire users have. Needless to say that I am a OP in the IRC channel...

I would personally recommend AceHack hit..It doesn't involve much of a process.I too was a bit confused what to choose, but believe me when u r in this site and search and read properly, everything will be alright. As everyone would say,i too will insist you to research properly about what you are doing..Root and flash as per your choice!!
