Thanks! Worked like a charm!
Is it a problem to have this firmware installed when I send my phone in for repair? I'm not sure if this is officially released yet?

firmware / rom difference

Hi,
I'm on ViperOne 6.2.1, S-OFF, latest Radio and have a noob question:

What is the difference between base (in rom) and firmware version?

Will flashing 6.06 delete my rom? what does it change exactly? do i need to upgrade hboot?

ROM is based on firmware. Firmware is low level interface between software and hardware.

Firmware like computer BIOS. ROM like OS.

HBOOT and firmware contain unknown changes, usually best to update to latest firmware, but can have unexpected effects if not updated in order of release.

:\

Hi guys,
I have the strangest problem trying to flash latest firmware
tried updating drivers, erase cache, updating recovery and nothing!
HTC One m7, S-OFF, Unlocked, TWRP 2.7.1.1, ElemantalX 14.12, Viper 6.2.1

This is what happens:
If I try to "fastboot getvar all" right when bootloader initiated i get:

Code:
(bootloader) version: 0.5
(bootloader) version-bootloader: 1.44.0000
(bootloader) version-baseband: 4T.28.3218.04
(bootloader) version-cpld: None
(bootloader) version-microp: None
(bootloader) version-main:
(bootloader) version-misc: PVT SHIP S-OFF
(bootloader) serialno: SH351W904476
(bootloader) imei: ***
(bootloader) meid: 00000000000000
(bootloader) product: m7_ul
(bootloader) platform: HBOOT-8064
(bootloader) modelid: PN0714000
(bootloader) cidnum: 11111111
(bootloader) battery-status: good
(bootloader) battery-voltage: 3872mV
(bootloader) partition-layout: Generic
(bootloader) security: off
(bootloader) build-mode: SHIP
(bootloader) boot-mode: FASTBOOT
getvar:all FAILED (status read failed (Too many links))
finished. total time: 0.072s

After this, EACH and every command i try (including flash/reboot/getvar) gives "too many links" and my phone "freezes"

If i try to "fastboot getvar version-main" right when bootloader initiated i get this blank:
Code:
fastboot getvar version-main
version-main:
finished. total time: 0.003s

If i try to "fastboot flash zip ..." right when bootloader initiated i get:
Code:
sending 'zip' (29586 KB)...
OKAY [ 2.447s]
writing 'zip'...
FAILED (remote: not allowed)
finished. total time: 2.483s

and of course, trying to flash after getvar all would give me too many links

Anyone knows what can I do?

TWRP 2.7.1.1 is causing main-ver to disappear. Flash 2.6.3.4 of 2.6.3.3
For the other part, are you on windows 8, because it's not compatible with bootloader 1.44. Try on win 7, or linux.
If not, try reinstalling your phone drivers.

My 2 cents.

Thanks,
Actually I had TWRP 2.7.0.0 when trying this and failed.
Updating to 2.7.1.1 was just another step in trying to solve the problem
Is 2.7.0.0 not ok?

Did u used first the command:
fastboot oem rebootRUU ?
Firmwares are flashed in a special mode.
Please use vomer's guide.

I didn't. What does it do?
I'm trying to upgrade to latest firnware and get rid of red warning.
I don't want to wipe or back to stock

You must be in this special mode to flash a firmware - RUU mode.
U can not flash a firmware in fastboot.
Read ALL the section 2 from vomer's guide: SECTION 2: FIRMWARE UPGRADE http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2365506 around the middle of the first post.
Read all the instructions and understand them.
To flash a firmware u will get in RUU mode, a black screen with silver writing.
There is allways some danger of bricking when you flash a firmware.
Good luck!

Here is the newest firmware for HTC One M7 without the red warning on Hboot. I did not change anything but removed the texts.

I created this thread because Google now requires the texts "Powered by Android" on new phones/firmwares, and the red warning overlaps it (as shown in the attachment below). This makes the screen ugly, so I removed the texts to beautify the screen.

Note: This firmware will not wipe your device. If anything goes wrong that your device is bricked, I am not responsible for that. Before uploading a new version, I always test it on my own HTC One.

Follow Vomer's guide to flash it: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2365506

Would it be best to just post a zip of the modified and stock hboot_signedbyaa which we could flash with fastboot instead flashing the entire firmware package?

    EDIT:

I attached the mini flashables for those who don't want to flash the entire firmware and just remove the red. hboot pulled from OP.

Flashing less-than-complete packages can potentially result in bricks. People bricked off the last upgrade trying to go from 3.xx to 5.xx. It's a best practice to always flash a complete package with the most recent versions of all files.

I would certainly not recommend flashing the latest hboot alone over earlier firmware. If you're already on 6.xx, flashing the modded hboot over the stock hboot isn't a problem (beyond the basic risks in using modded firmware, that is).

Only flash via fastboot if already on firmware 6.06.401.1 and hboot 1.57 and don't want to reflash the full firmware package again.
