The question is - is THIS file edited or not ?
Please check if in 01shutdown pointed lines are commented.
If it doesn't help - means I was wrong and we keep searching.

You can disable backup by removing script file that triggers it, but it is somekind more advanced feature and - I suppose Cope and WarrenB will be shouting on me for advancing you to do that.
If you really really would like to switch it of - to make sure if it's backup related - please mail me at: marcinbojko@tlen.pl
I will tell you what to do.

LOL... Marcin, I just added your email to a porn scanner, you should be getting some good mails... j/k

You should know better then show your email like that.

I noticed this too. I don't have a data plan and use prepay, so I turned off data and have wifi on... but I noticed when I turn on the phone from standby, before the wifi turns on, my phone is trying to use data. Luckily I don't have a plan that allows it to be used unless I prepay for it, so it's not costing me anything... but I think it's something that needs to be looked into. It's the only build I ever tried that did this... is there something else turning the data on even when you have it shut off in settings?

i didn't installed anything else , only updated that build
nothing else

Problems with lost settings after reboot

from my original post last night:
I just installed this new release and discovered this big showstopper :
everytime I reboot I loose all my settings:
- shortcuts and widgets on main screen
- all modified settings like brightness, keyboard, etc.
- alarms I had set to wake up tomorrow morning (it's half past midnight here).
I'm glad I've catched this before going to sleep...

I think its the same problem that somebody else was talking with Docent.
I also have a partitioned SD card, but in my case its formatted as ext4.

Going to sleep now...

from your reply:
there are far too many people who have installed the newest build without problems. I think you are a one of case.. (well 2 of now...)

Well, it seems they are many many more now...

I can tell you 100% this problem is not an issue with the build. We test things thoroughly to make sure they work before we release... and the three of us scattered around the world, using US and EU hd2's, with different network providers... different sdcards, different data connections 3g/vs my 2g.... etc
and I can tell you without a doubt, that none of us had this problem... so it is NOT a problem with the build.. more likely a small hickup over there on your end.. be it a 3rd party app or something else. (i'm not trying to shift blame here off the build.. i'm just trying to re-iterate to you, that dont be so quick to blame us... when it works SOOO good for SOO many people. You know?)

...

How did you get me to be "so quick to blame us" ? There was nothing to blame you or to bash the build. It was just to issue a warning. And since my warning, many other people have faced this problem. After all, these threads are all about helping either the developers for improving their builds, by reporting problems and making some tests, or to help users with how to use these builds.

I really appreciate your work, and I like this build since the beginning, maybe just a little bit less for this particular release.

Alain.

So now, let's try to catch this issue (lost settings after reboot).

I retried everything from the beginning, and the result is the same : whenever I reboot I loose my settings, like the alarms I set with the clock app.

Here are the scientific facts :
- I reformated everything : FAT32, ext3, swap (yes I switched from ext4 to ext3 just in case of).
- I downloaded the very latest build "b" AmeriCanAndroid SD Standard, the file being named copeNwarren 022411b.7z, and extracted it, and copied the Android folder to my SD card
- I booted a first time and let it settle a bit
- I setup some alarms with the clock
- I did not modify anything else
- I rebooted [more scientifically: I first power off; let it some time off; then booted again]
- and BOOM the alarms have returned to their default values

Now, let's tackle this in an organized way.
Copenhagen, Warren and Docent, you all three are saying that you can't reproduce this.
But are you sure, in the first place, that you are using the SAME build ? I mean, you probably use an in-house version, but have you tried to actually download the 7-zipped files ? There is always the possibility that some file has been corrupted. Maybe it even depends from which site we have downloaded (multiupload, rapidshare, hotfile...).

To Warren: maybe you would never notice the problem, because you don't have the same phone (I have the european HD2), and therefore not the same version of the build (standard vs TMoUS).

To Docent: you have tried to reproduce, but during your procedure you have restored with Titanium Backup, thus you no more have clean conditions for comparison.

And a final note : I have noticed that the build.prop file has been messed up in the Feb24 "b" version. This file sets up both the TMo DNS and the Google DNS at the same time, and has commented out the Docent settings. Can you check if this is what you intended ?

I am home now - YEAH! WEEKEND! WOOT!!

+1 on the above .. every bit of it.

I am able to reproduce the above scenario 100% of the time with the 0224b build files I have downloaded. I have a TMoUS HD2. I am located in Denver, Colorado if that helps any.

OMG. Dear Copenhagen, my young and so younger fellow. Why are you always so unfriendly with knowledgeable people who try to help you ?
^^I dont like this part at all my friend.^^

you havnt the slightest how old I am. and far from the truth me being unfriendly to people who try to help. i think the people who try to help are fantastic, sometimes-the odd individual seems to rattle my cage, however, same coin other side; while i need to learn to relax, those other people need to learn this is how i am. I mean no offense, and by no means wish to offend anyone, in anyway. So if I did offend I apologize. The fact that I spend so much time here.. should account for something yes? im not here for just myself ;)

either way you and i have been having communication issues. lets start again.

Hello Copenhagen, nice to see you with us

terminal:
mount
-> verify you have mmcblk0p2 sd-ext mounted (it will show somewhere in that list) if you can see it is mounted continue

OK, it is mounted on /sd-ext type ext3

su
cd /sd-ext
ls
rm -r app
rm -r app-private
rm -r data
rm -r dalvik-cache

reboot. (1)
make your settings changes and what not
reboot.

are you losing your settings now?

Unfortunately, it has been 10 min or more now that I am stuck after the reboot (1).

Should I wait more, or should I reset ?

EDIT: after waiting for more than 20 min, I decided to reset (small red button).
However, after another try to reboot, I am again stuck at the green HTC logo on black background.

I think I will give up for now. It is 2 o'clock in the night here, and I really need to go sleeping.

Im happy i have not been having any of the problems reported with this build (thank god)
My setup:
warrenNcopeTMo 022411b
Tmous Htc hd2,
Radio:2.15.50.14
Winmo 6.5
8gig Sandisk Sd card (not sure what class?)
I have sd card partitioned as (Faq instructions) using Mtpw. (Fat32,ext3,linux swap all set as primary)
I tried the above scenario setting alarms and rebooting (shutting off and waiting few min, then turning back on) a few times and my alarms were still there. Also my settings are staying with reboots. Only weird thing that has happened (once) was the phone locked up while i was playing w the camera and going into the gallery it froze and had to take the battery out to recover, and maybe battery life not quite as good as (feb 16) build.
These are my findings so far with the 022411b build...

!! WE HAVE NOT TESTED EXT4 WITH THE BUILD YET !!

@user requesting how to ext3 to ext4

First get to ext3.
how to change an ext2 filesystem (should you still have one) to ext3 (enabling the journal feature), use the command:

run terminal on your device. (dont type the #'s at the beginning of the lines)

# su
# tune2fs -j /dev/block/mmcblk0p2

upgrade to ext4 on an existing ext3 filesystem, use the command:
#######its an OH not a ZERO!!! ##############
# tune2fs -O extents,uninit_bg,dir_index /dev/block/mmcblk0p2

(WARNING: Once you run this command, the filesystem will no longer be mountable using the ext3 filesystem!) <-- dont worry about this warning

After running this command (specifically, after setting the uninit_bg parameter), you MUST run fsck to fix up some on-disk structures that tune2fs has modified:

### its -fDCZERO not OH###########
# e2fsck -fDC0 /dev/block/mmcblk0p2

@rmth2

>I have run contents of /system/etc/shutdown.d/01shutdown file manually from PC with adb shell command. sd-ext directory was cleared after it.

/sd-ext/ cleared because of umount line. this unmounts /sd-ext mmcblk0p2. After unmounted what you are seeing is actually the /sd-ext of the rootfs.img which is empty and readonly.

>I made reboot then - my configuration was not lost after back to android.
Can anybody check it and confirm yet?

Okay.. so.. this is good right? configuration was not lost

>One thing yet. Look at Should 01shutdown file1 be set to -rwxr-xr-x permission to execute?

ill look at this.. may have missed something

Arf... It's my turn to have troubles with the FEB24 release... everything worked really well yesterday, I played the whole day with this build, had some extra reboots and everything went smooth and fast.
Then this mornin' I turned on my HD2 and boom... lost all my apps, and after a while the phone didn't want to exit the sleep mode... have to remove the battery and restart.
After the restart, same troubles... no apps and stuck in sleepin' mode.

--> back to FEB19 build :(

Pullin the builds down

forgetting to add the --delete switch to the rsync command.
effects. deleted apps come back. (deleted settings files also)
干me.

/system/bin/logwrapper /system/xbin/rsync -avz /data/ /sd-ext;
/system/bin/logwrapper /system/xbin/rsync -avz --delete /data/ /sd-ext;

the delete is what maintains the sd-ext side of things.. so if you delete anything from /data/ rsync w/ that --delete switch will remove it from /sd-ext

so that should take care of the users with the zombie apps.. possibly the reverting settings.

also probably not so good to have this happen when $i=data
which would explain the completely missing settings.

busybox rmdir /$i/data; or rather busybox rmdir /data/data;

& the build.prop train wreck
& the permissions on the 01shutdown file itself
& the fact the the build is already on a "b" revision
having a "c" revision will be a first for us.

im just going to rebuild @ this point.
ive pulled the builds and am starting a new compile that will include the changes.

so for all insisting that i was doing it turns out that i was wrong. get used to this .. its how i operate. lol its my willingness to search and destroy the problem that is my charm. toughen up and argue back. lol actually you did. that said.. Im still not having any of the issues you guys are having, but I am also using an old data.img. That's probably the saving factor in all this. users who create a new data.img would probably lose their data and settings.

USERS who currently have their device on and running with everything working....
DONT REBOOT! lol. ill get a new build posted with the changes. shutdown. update and then turn back on and you should be fine.. be back soon

oh and btw. You were right. I'm sorry.

again with the dress and purse.
pffffffffffffffT!

(warren's sick.. he gets out of this one)

First off:
The 180 build prop, love it, those who don't...well...to bad for you ;P

Okay, so I am having some conflics, firstly I have my sd card partitioned, but use that with dandiest release "DL DesireZ v4.1". I have dandiest's build that uses the 2 ext4 partitions on my sdcard, but this release conflics with that.

I basicly get apps in wrong locations, mixed settings, and apps that constantly crash. Is there any way to get your build to only use the "data.img" and not the ext4 partitions.

Thank you for your work

or I could use the 2 ext4 partitions for your build, and only use the data.img in dandiest's build:D

you still need the fat32 partition for the haret.exe clrcad.exe data.img rootfs etc etc.. that would be a first i've heard of someone managed to get it to boot off solely an ext partition. but that would be cool tho.

hold up tho..
im fixing these problems an re-uploading the build. 15 mins

I have dual boot. This rom and WP7 (twilight).
I am also using apps2sdext with this rom.
For making partitions I used only "mini tool partition wizard" (MTPW) for windows
What I did:
1. Flash wp7. this will create partition called "other" 200 mb in your sd card
2. in MTPW modify the size from 200 MB to the size that you like and make it primary.
Please note this size will be used as WP7 as internal storage and where you store all your documents and data (music etc) accessable only by WP7 in your phone.
3. Still in MTPW delete all other partitions except "other" so you will just have "unallocated space" and "other" partition.
4. Start making 3 primary partitions needed for apps2sdext from the unallocated space (fat32 + ext3 + linuxswap).

My setup:
Fat32 = 2.9 g
ext3 = 1 g
linuxswap = 100 k
"other" = 4 g

I have been trying to carry out these steps, but MTPW does not give you the option to modify the 200 MB partition.

The modify/resize option is greyed out...

Does anyone have any suggestionst???

(alternatively install exceller bootloader for winmo for one click or AUTO launch of Android OS)

first boot always takes a long time be patient, it will work, and future boots do not take as long.

    bkup2sdext users read below
    - To enable backup of apps and data to your sd-ext partition edit /system/build.prop change
@ the bottom aca.bkup2sdext.enable to =1 (change back to 0 to disable)
*to enable restore of /data/data edit /system/etc/shutdown.d/02shutdown and add data after
for i in app app-private so you end up with
    for i in app app-private data;
    save, then reboot.

-!! During day to day use; it is MOST important to SHUTDOWN and not pull batt,
as this is when your data gets backed up to the sd-ext partition.. !!

    - Your device will auto restart after about 5 to 10 minutes from when android starts loading.
This shut down is required to complete the restore of existing data to a new build.

-Major Major Cyanogenmod Updates from Feb 26 to March 1st
-more work done on bkup2sdext to guarentee no loss of data
-camera fix included in the build, you dont have to do it yourself.
(and THANKYOU for providing what I needed in order to go ahead with this fix you know who u are)(who gets the thanks for bringing this to our attention?)
-removed some useless files - remnants of earlier builds no longer being used.
-removed button savior.. you can get it from the market
-further tweeking on data has done to again increase reliability of the data connection
-as far as I can tell the rogue data on problem is gone
    2/24/11c:
-cyanogenmod updates from feb 24 to feb 26
-build now prevents bkup2sdext enable for anyone using magldr rootfs.img
-more data stability work has been done.. improvements seen again
-wierd data auto reconnect bug gone now.. (not sure what was causing it... ah well gone now)
    -cyanogenmod updates from feb 24
various updates inc: mms systemui systemsetup framework and improved italian support
    - cyanogenmod updates from feb 21st to 24th
    - added missing gps files (sorry bout last time)
    - added data to bkup2sd so now all user data and app settings are saved to sd-ext ;) (partitioned sdcard users)
    - added solution to my senario 4. now uninstalling an app normally uninstalls it from sd-ext partition on device shutdown. ;) so try not to pull your battry if you just uninstalled some stuff, otherwise it will be back when you reboot as the device didnt go though a proper shutdown.
    - adjusted the timer on the data reconnection from 3 to 4 seconds. hopefully wont be short enough to not get annoying, but long enough to let the connection completely die before rebuilding it. (blah blah geek speak.... i am playing with data... you probably wont even notice anything!)
    2/21/11:
    - (partitioned sdcard users only)
NEW app & dalvik-cache auto backup to sd-ext (early stages EXTREMELY
promising !! - this replaces app2sdext feature introduced in feb 11 build.)
if you lose your data.img or format your fat32 partition or upgrade your build. (will work for this build # and moving forward)
all your apps and their program files, all data from your dalvik-cache, is all restored on first boot. (first boot will take some time) this restores the speed of prior to aps2sdext, but now works for us instead of against us
    - Fixed Voice Capability
    - Docent has updated is swap partition feature (partitioned users only)
    - New kernel. WarrenB r2.21
    - UTF8 & tun working again.
    - cyanogenmod7 RC1 updates from Feb 16 to Feb 21
    - Much Much faster then prior release. an HD2 on crack.
    - warren's data fixes are still holding up. best data functionality in an android hd2 build we've ever seen.
    - we both recommend installing setCPU to extend battery life. (we do NOT recommend changing ANY settings at all. Set to interactive and walk away.)
    - thats all i can think of for now.
    02/16/11
-cyanogenmod updates from feb 4 to feb 16. inc version update to CM7 RC1.
    -kernel updated to v2.9
-ppp fixes (warren) compiled from source (cope) to bring you the best SD PPP build to date for the HD2.
-building process refined ten fold. much cleaner.
-apps2sdext* added. only effects users with a partitioned sd card.
*your apps can essentially survive fat32 partition corruption & format /(and or) data.img loss) makes for updating builds a DREEEEAM!.
Users w/o partitioned sdcards dont worry just proceed as you always have.
-all other features carry over from WarrenBread and Cope's SD builds.
    working:
gps, bt (no AVRCP yet), wifi, data 2G(with reconnect after call as it should be), data 3G(no dropped data on call or end call), camera & video camera.
    02/14/11 - o.m.g! supersecret internal build
    02/11/11 - internal test build
    02/09/11 - loyalty build iii

C'mon guys... let's push Cope over the 1000 thanks mark. Only 3 to go as of this post. And thank Warren as well... with the stuff he's done lately he more than deserves it.

Lets get Cope and I both over 1,000. :p
