It looks to me as it's close to Galaxy Nexus' tiny icons, isn't it?

Navigation

I have been playing with beta 1 today, it is very nice and seems prity stable. However I am missing an important feature for me an that is navigation. Neither Google navigation or Sygic Aura seem to work. Anyone got any tips?

Id just like to thank Onecosmic for his work and getting us ICS on our phones.

I have to say though: beta2 is a mess. Since I had to wipe anyway, I decided to try out teamhacksung's build as well. After all I had nothing to lose.

Well. It seems reasonably good so far

I appreciate the work done here, but the ups and downs and release-instabilities (alpha7 good, 8 horrible, beta1 good, 2 a mess) means I can't use this as a daily driver and hence I can't really do any useful testing.

Have a good one guys, I'm off to different builds :p

You probably should edit your signature :p

Seroulsly it's a beta, go read the teamhacksung's ICS Port thread... it is supposedly more stable but look how the list of known issues is long ...it doesn't even want to try it

Many thanks guys for the hard work u r putting in.

I have just installed Beta2 I9000. The power control toolbar wifi and bluetooth brightnesss etx used to fit and touch the bottom panel phone messages. In this new Beta version it does not fit there anymore when I take it there it bounces back up. Is this suppose to happen it did not in Beta1 and everything looks a lot smaller all the icons

Thnks in advance

Navigation

What kind of problems do you have?

Google navigation gives a couple of errors: First "Google TTS stopped" and then navigation seems to work for 2 minutes and then "Google Maps stopped".

Sygic Aura navigation just shows a black screen on start up while it should show the Sygic logo.

So are changes/fixes shared back and forth with the teamhacksamsung/cm team or not? Progress would go much faster if people work together or am I wrong?

After a while i'm thinking the small Icons are a good idea ,especcially in the appdrawer. But somehow the width of the widgets is looking weird.
Performance is pretty good so far...

I've always preferred smaller icons on my computers n laptops over the years. Always set a higher resolution so i could get smaller icons lol

Anyway....

Good solid 2 days on beta 1. Its nice to unplug the charger and have the battery meter stay at 100% lol. Is this just the old GB bug gone or is there a possibility that the battery could be staying on charge until it is unplugged ?

Everything I've used has worked almost flawlessly. Had to restart to get the phone to connect with BT to my car stereo, but then I often had to do that on Gingerbread.

Browser is faster than the gingerbread version and I think I'm getting less battery drain using the 3g than I would on GB.

Talking of battery drain, I've had a normal day. 15 minutes of phonecalls, a dozen texts and about an hour on and off of internets. Also showed a lad at work a few new features and I'm at 50% and 10 hours and 45 mins on battery so about the same as GB for me. Specific usage details are different, as below;

Android OS - 28%
Screen - 22%
Media Server - 9%
Mobile Standby - 9%
Browser - 8% - which is making me think that the 3g is draining less.

On GB, you would wonder why Android OS was so high but the Net result as mentioned is roughly the same as GB over a day so I'm happy. Perhaps it will even settle down..

Should I move to Beta 2 or is it proving less stable ?

awesome rom Onecosmic
but can you delete the quick search apk by default so the when you click the search bar on the home screen the ics Google search bar comes (it works on beta1)

and anyone change the LCD density of the icons with rom toolbox (performance >build.prop tweaks)

Ad-Hoc Wifi

Loving the builds so far. ICS is great and I really appreciate the work everyone has put in.

I am having almost no issues whatsoever... By far the most stable "Alphas" and "Betas" i think i have ever used.

One question: I need to be able to connect my phone to ad-hoc networks. On CM7 i was able to use the wpa_supplicant patch to get things working. It looks like once again google has disabled ad-hoc connections in ICS by default.

I don't know if it is possible to use the wpa patch from earlier builds (2.3.7) on ICS, or if a new patch will need to be developed exclusively for 4.0.1

Does anyone know anything about getting ad-hoc working in ICS?

Is anyone getting "Unfortunately, Launcher has stopped." message frequently? It seems to occur when I start swiping into the widgets from the last page of apps. I have 69 apps installed. Might also be a particular widget preview it can't generate properly, I'm suspicious of the facebook and Notes anywhere widgets, seems to crash frequently when swiping into the widget page containing widgets from those apps.

Aside from that, I am so impressed with this release, all the key features for me like GPS, network signal pickup/transition and tethering are better than the latest CM7 nightly, I think that is amazing, congratulations on a great effort! :)

thank you very much to ONECOSMIC and his team for their work.

in the beta 2 I've noticed some problems
- I can not mount as usb phone, even using the script that existed in the alpha 7.
- The player and I acknowledge the gallery external memory, it seems weird because in the beta 1 had no such problems.
(anyone know how to fix this last, I am that I'm going back to beta 1)

- I modified the buildprop, to have the resolution to 240 and not 200, I must say that speed is not lost on any of the cases.

I flashed 2 times the rom, wipe the cache and dalvik, I get a black screen after the fish...

i followed the link of the tutorial on the first post, i also got black screen. i flashed kernel first and then the ROM. it worked. although flashing rom means stock kernel inside the rom, then flashing kernel before is meaningless. i dont know, you may try flashing only ROM, and see if that works ;)

Nope. I've had no issues.

I probably would of held off installing quite so many apps on a beta. You are introducing so many different things and if one of them causes an issue, you would be clueless as to which it is..

Great job to all involved. Though obviously there is work to be done, I have this as my daily. I don't necessarily mind the smaller icons, but I would much prefer they were back to normal size.

Again, outstanding work done by the devs! :D

Tutorial How to flash Alpha 7! NOOBPROOF

OK, for all you people who are too lazy to read the damn thread or simply don't understand it(no offense) I will write this very noob-proof guide to install alpha 6. This guide is for the I9000 SGS; I’d love to write it for the I9000B, but as I don’t have this device I can’t ensure you everything will work.
Warning, alpha builds are not fully working!! They may contain bugs & have random reboots, by using this guide you accept this. Also I’m not responsible for hard-bricking your phone, which acually shouldn’t happen if you just follow this guide very exactly.

So we start off, ofcourse we need some files & requirements:
    - A phone with a custom kernel installed!! This is very important as we need to enter CWM(ClockWorkMod(recovery))!
    - The rom itself ( http://ice-cream-sandwich-sgs.googlecode.com/files/ICS_4.0.1_r1-alpha7.zip )
    - The kernel (http://ice-cream-sandwich-sgs.googlecode.com/files/CM7FuguMod_20111124_update-i9000.zip )
    - SuperUser fix (http://ice-cream-sandwich-sgs.googlecode.com/files/Superuser-3.0.6-efgh-signed.zip )
    - 3G fix ( http://xdaforums.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=793818&d=1322157965 )
    - The ability to read english & set your brain to read & do mode.

OK, now you’ve downloaded all those files and set your brain to read & do let’s start off.
First of all we need to disable your simlock, as ICS will not enable your network with a simlock. If you don’t feel like disabling your simlock, there is no point for you flashing ICS.
To do this we’ll do the following:
    1. Go to settings
    2. Go to the security tab
    3. Click on sim card lock, and disable it.

After you’ve done this you have to make sure your on a JVT rom. Also disable the lagfix.(I’m not going to explain this. Why? Well if you have flashed any custom rom you know how to do this.)

Now hook up your phone to your PC in USB mode, and in the root of your internal storage make a folder called “Flashable zips”. Now copy ALL those zip files you’ve just downloaded to this folder, ALL of them.

After your done we will reboot in recovery, for the beginners a small tutorial.
    1. Turn off your phone by holding down the power button and clicking “power off phone”.
    2. Wait for your phone to TOTALLY turn off, when it is it’ll vibrate for a moment.
    3. Now hold the “Volume UP” + “Home” + “Power” buttons until you see the Galaxy S I9000 logo appear, when the logo appears release the buttons and wait a bit. Now you will be in recovery!

Now we are going to backup your phone, incase you want to return to your old setup. (I will not provide a guide how to return, but as long as you have the backup almost any dev can help you with putting it all back together) Now here follow these exact instructions to backup your current setup.
    1. Use the volume buttons to navigate to “backup and restore”
    2. Press either the power button or home button to select the option. (the text may disappear depending on your kernel, just re-press the button you pressed to make it disappear and the text will be there again)
    3. Now press “Backup” and it will start backing up your phone, this may take a while.. get a coffee.
Check if the backup was succesfull, the recovery will report this in white/orange tekst.

    You’ve succesfully made a nandroid!

Now we need to wipe our phone.
    1. In the recovery menu select “wipe data/factory reset”
    2. Now select “wipe cache partition”
    3. Go ahead and go to the “advanced” option
    4. In there select “wipe Dalvik Cache”
    5. Go back to the menu you were before.

OK, now it’s time to start the actual flashing, again follow these instructions to the letter!
    1. In the recovery menu navigate to “install zip from sdcard” and press your selection key
    2. Now choose the option “choose zip from sdcard”
    3. Navigate to the folder we just made “Flashable zips”
    4. In there select “ICS_4.0.1_r1-alpha7.zip”
    5. Now navigate to the option “Yes – install ICS_4.0.1_r1-alpha7.zip”
It will now flash the rom.
Does your phone reboot into a blue recovery menu? Just follow the steps again as discribed above ^.

Once we have done this, we will have to flash the kernel.
    1. In the recovery menu navigate to “install zip from sdcard” and press your selection key
    2. Now choose the option “choose zip from sdcard”
    3. Navigate to the folder we just made “Flashable zips”
    4. In there select “CM7FuguMod_20111124_update-i9000.zip”
    5. Now navigate to the option “Yes – install CM7FuguMod_20111124_update-i9000.zip”

Once it’s done, go ahead and hit the “reboot system now” option.
Now wait for the phone to boot. Take a coffee in the meantime, this can take a while.

    Now an important thing!!
Android will comeup with 2 options, first check the box "set as default" then press the FIRST ONE!

When it’s up and running, we need to install script manager. Open up the market and setup your gmail account. Once you’ve done this search in the market for “script manager”, and download & install Script Manager FREE.

We need to flash a 3G fix by WarDrake. It seems the bootanimation is too big and it causes 3G to not work for most of us. Thus the bootanimation needs to be removed. Follow these instructions to flash this package.
    1. In the recovery menu navigate to “install zip from sdcard” and press your selection key
    2. Now choose the option “choose zip from sdcard”
    3. Navigate to the folder we just made “Flashable zips”
    4. In there select “enable3gv3.zip”
    5. Now navigate to the option “Yes – enable3gv3.zip”
Thanks WarDrake for finding this out!!

Once you've flashed the 3G fix go ahead and flash the superuser fix.
    1. In the recovery menu navigate to “install zip from sdcard” and press your selection key
    2. Now choose the option “choose zip from sdcard”
    3. Navigate to the folder we just made “Flashable zips”
    4. In there select “Superuser-3.0.6-efgh-signed.zip”
    5. Now navigate to the option “Yes – Superuser-3.0.6-efgh-signed.zip”
When it’s done flashing hit the “reboot system now” option.

Now the 3G script is already included, and you might have noticed a 3G icon above the signal bars, though data still doesn't work. For this part of the tutorial I’d like to thank WarDrake who simplyfied this fix. I’m using his instructions and all credits go to him!!
    1. Open script manager and go navigate to : /etc/init.d
    2. In here select the script named 99enable3g and open it as a script
    3. Now click on the button "help" and select: run as root, run at boot, run on network change. (DO NOT RUN IT)
    4. Hit the “save” button.
    5. Exit script manager

Once you’re done reboot your device and suddenly….

    AAMMMMGGG 3GG NETWORKKZZZ <3

Thanks again to WarDrake for this amazing fix!

If you followed my instructions correctly, you should be running Alpha 7! If it doesn't work you are probably one of The Almighty R’tards and you will have to start all over again, good luck.

Now you’ve all noticed I used the same tutorial everytime, that’s because It’s easier for people to understand, and they will learn how to flash files by doing the same procedure over and over.

    Disclaimer,
If you somehow managed to f*ck this up, go to hell and go f*ck yourself.
Mods feel free to remove my disclaimer.

Please look through the F.A.Q before joining IRC and asking the same question over and over.
    F.A.Q
Q: AAAMGG MIEE PHONE NO BOOOOOTTT?@!?!?!
A: If you would have read the tutorial you would know that if your phone reboots into a blue recovery menu, you should FLASH THE ROM AGAIN.

    Q: My touchscreen doesn't work!
A: Try reflashing the i9000 kernel, though if you are using a i9000b don't flash it.

    Heads up:

Well, system pushed to 350mb (old system + datadata size), i'll try to put together wifi and removed stuff on a single image.
