i used parts of youre guide and managed to get my 2.2 froyo (upgraded through odin with all files in place) galaxy 5 get recognized as Jh7 JG3 JH2 and be upgrade-able to JI1 / JG3 / JI2 even with the latest kies (after attempting to use the galaxy S kies registry patcher). I used these steps :

1. Opened kies - afterwards make sure you run the kies registry patcher and just set the product code to the one your phone has , just so it creates the spoof registry lines you also need.
2. Connected the phone (make sure you do a hard reset first - this is crucial because the 2.2 supported app2sd and you'd get a lot of errors if you fail to do this)
3. Pressed the upgrade firmware button once and it popped up a window saying the widgets won't work while upgrading (i think this only appears in some regions)
3. Changed the following in regedit
SoftwareRevision = I5500XWJH7/I5500OXXJH2/I5500XWJG3/I5500XWJH7

ProductCode = GT-I5500YKACNX

HIDSWVER = I5500XWJH7/I5500OXXJH2/I5500XWJG3/I5500XWJH7

NAME = GT-I5500 (removed the L from the back)

Model Name = GT-I5500 (removed the L from the back)

test_productcode = CNX

testversion = I5500XWJH7/I5500OXXJH2/I5500XWJG3/I5500XWJH7

DevConInfo = removed

4. Pressed ok in the window saying widgets are not usable while upgrading and voila. My phone got recognized as JH7 / JG3 / JH2 and able to upgrade it to the final version of my region : Ji1 / JG3 / Ji2 .

Started the downgrade process and it worked like charm.
Realised you do get some errors even if you do a hard reset before the upgrade but as long as you have the default home screen widget you are able to go as far as doing a factory reset from the phone's menu.

Also i cannot be held responsable for any damages made to your phones.

This guide only works on a galaxy 5 that has GT-I5500YKACNX this product code written on the box as that firmware revision is only for CNX ( romania ).
If anyone else manages otherwise , please inform.

In theory if you grab the product phone of your galaxy from the registry ( because it doesn't alter even if you upgrade to different region firmware) and you know the original and correct SoftwareRevision line of the phone you should be able to upgrade back to a original firmware aswell. The thing is , i made the phone look as the older original firmware the phone came with , so it will be upgrade-able and it wouldn't be the latest firmware of that phone region. I'm not sure if spoofing as the latest firmware will let you upgrade it aswell.
Basically my phone out of the box was JH7 JG3 JH2 , but then i upgraded it to Ji1 JG3 Ji2 with kies and afterwards went for the south american froyo with odin. Today it's back to the original firmware thanks to the guides above.

Maybe somebody will try spoofing as this firmware version ( jh7 jg3 jh2) but keeping theyre own ProductCode to the original one and see if they get the latest firmware they remember having before starting to flash through ODIN.

Can anyone here help me to do this for a UK handset? I would like to flash back to stock with Kies but not sure what code goes where in the registry to do so.

Thanks

I would also appreciate it, now when official KIES froyo upgrade is supposed to be released. If not i guess i'd just have to downgrade using ODIN again

Well i've got some good news for the UK if you purchased your phone from CPW as i had the same problem, follow the intructions quoted above, but use the below values where applicable.

You must use Kies_1.5.3.10103_64_1 otherwise it won't work.

SoftwareRevision = I5500XWJI2/I5500OXAJH2/I5500XWJG3/I5500XWJI2

ProductCode = GT-I5500YKACPW

HIDSWVER = I5500XWJI2/I5500OXAJH2/I5500XWJG3/I5500XWJI2

NAME = GT-I5500 (removed the L from the back)

Model Name = GT-I5500 (removed the L from the back)

test_productcode = CPW < if this value is not present then it's not needed

testversion = I5500XWJI2/I5500OXAJH2/I5500XWJG3/I5500XWJI2 < if this value is not present then it's not needed

DevConInfo = removed

When the firmware has been installed by Kies do a factory reset using the code below.

*2767*3855#

Now you need to change the product code so that Kies and any new updated version of Kies will detect your phones firmware correctly and install Froyo 2.2 when it arrives, to do this do the following.

Enter *#272*your imei#
Now select CPW from the list and tap install, wait for the phone to restart and you're all done.

Hope this helps!

So, everything seems to work apart from the bit quoted above. Did you make a mistake in the codes?

Hard reset code for me was: *2767*3855#

Thanks

Hello guys,

I just tried to flash my Galaxy 5 to 2.2 using the USA Firmware. After I flash it, i can't use my phone anymore. It always said that the android process needs to be forced quit. When I tried to flash with the Asia firmware, the touch screen didn't work. What firmware should I flash to get 2.2? Or what's the trick? Thanks.

Btw, I'm from Indonesia, and I got this device from Samsung Indonesia. Thanks.

NVM, i just reflashed it using the 2.2 USA firmware. Working fine.....for now.... Thanks.

After 80 pages full with users from all around the globe, different problems, hacks, helps and helpers, etc., there is no topic bound for this great little phone yet? Am amazed:confused:

What about the IMEI code? Enter *#272*your imei# - THis didn't work for me either.

Seems to have worked fine anyway and updated firmware via Kies.

Thanks

I think you may need to do a hard reset first using *2767*3855# after using Kies, then use *#272*your imei# strait after the hard reset to change the product code, to check your IMEI type *#06#

    Hi everyone,

    I'm working on the GT-I5500 for about 10 days, played alot, flashed alot and i finaly got to learn how it works
    Well i have created a modified froyo version based on samsung's I5500LAR0JP2
    Basically i tweaked the initiation scripts and got the powersave gorvernor set to ondemand
    It was performance, so the cpu clock was always at max
    The battery now lasts about 3 times more according to testers and the device aparently is more stable. All the apps are the same
    Setcpu can be removed since the powersave mode is now default

    To install it, use the odin procedure as the same as the I5500LAR0JP2
    Remember to do a factory wipe after installing
    Below the file, DO NOT RENAME THE FILE TO .TAR OR ANYTHING ELSE, odin will do the checksum of the file so you know it has been downloaded correcty

    tinyurl.com/67wpzzm

    At the Lowyat forum there is all the testing and modifications
    forum.lowyat.net/topic/1687862

    You can also join the irc channel at freenode.net (webchat.freenode.net channel #gti5500)

    All kind of help is welcome

    Thanks,
