Bootloop

Got stuck in a bootloop today, after clearing the cache and dalvik cache. Need to reflash now...

This is the kind of thing I really hate about android. Maybe it's just my experiences, but I never feel that the OS is 100% stable. I always fear of having to reflash or do that sort of thing. I also think the file managing is really hard, since my SD card just fills up with all kind of folders from all kinds of apps, so i can't really see the forest trough the trees.

When u wipe dalvik it seems to boot loop, but this is when the dalvik is rebuilding... for me with over 200 apps it sometimes takes a long time, up to half hour...

About you feeling the stableness of android... remember pure android (aosp) isn't supposed to be the desire... if you wanted 100% stable then I would suggest sticking with HTC sense, and not rooting at all... :)

If you wanted stable, then why root and flash custom roms? Having said that, GingerVillain was one of the most stable roms I've ever used.

hmm, maybe you are right at that, and it was rebuilding. Yet, after an hour of waiting without any kind of response I got fed up and just reflashed. Was acting quite slow anyway.

But I guess you are right about the stability, just need to weigh the balance against the speed/feature gain. I'm so used to custom roms now, i don't think i could ever go back. But most times it's the negative feelings that stick, in this case the bugs inside an unofficial OS or the fact that the HTC desire has almost none internal memory...

Thanks for your response :)

Hi all,

just a dummy question about this rom I use for months now, :
When I get a voicemail, I get a notification from my network provider with a small voicemachine icon in the left part of the notification bar.
If I click on the clear button, this icon disapear and it is not persistant.
If I want it back (in order to remind me that I have a voicemail to listen to) I need to get in airplane mode then enabling the network again to see this icon comming back

=> Do you know how to get this icon persistant and not cleared when I click on the clear button (to put it on the left part of the notification bar?) ?

Cheers

There's already a thread for the CM7 nightlies. This is for GingerVillain. And yes, maybe Richard is no longer developing this, but I'm sure there are still people using it.

Please don't spam this thread with links for other roms.

Cheers.

No, I'm sorry.
I knew that GingerVillian was a mod of the CM ROM ...

So I hoped that Richard would update its Rom to the last CM :)

Ginger villain got all tweaks of CM7 as well as the best battery life, as I have tried around 15 different roms (sense and soap without sense)
I always come back to Ginger VillainROM for its battery, stability and performance.
This this helps u.
Best advice will be just try and you will find otherwise go back :)

Hello.
For several days, I used "Desire – Villain_Au – Talbess"
It is an upgrade of "ginger villain 3.3" of Richard Tripp.
(==> http://www.roms-au.com/home/villain_au/)
This upgrade contains a lot of interesting things.
This Villain_Au is also fast and smooth.
I suggest you try it.;)
Regards.

strange one, or two

Hi All, strange problem. For what seems like no reason at all (No updates or new apps etc).

My GMail went wrong. when i open it, i can see all my emails in the list (some read, some unread) but the screen suddenly starts blinking, sometimes its seems to blink black and come back again, then it seems to swipe sideways like a screen transition on powerpoint. Its also very unusable, it take several attempts to actually click anything and seems to hang the phone. as soon as i can get back to the home screen everything is fine again. Only GMail seems affected. I only reloaded my entire phone a week ago, dont really want to again...

I tried: reboot, pulling battery, clearing Gmail cache and data, flashing GV3.3 over the top. Nothing fixed the issue. I installed K9 and it works fine with my Gmail account.

Any ideas?

thanks in advance.

I got a real problem :(

I took out my SD card earlier and put another 1 in (not formatted right) to i could copy somthing onto it...some new maps for my nuvi gps.

Didnt think there would be a problem apart from the phone not finging most of my apps, it all booted ok apart from wigdets etc not working.

I go to put my normal sd card in and now its stuck in a boot loop :( I dont have any nandroid backups, although i have done 1 now but its just stick in boot loop.

Is there anyway around this? posted logcat.

I did have my dalvik cache running on the SD.

Its bootlooping 10-12 second after getting to the villainrom logo

For a long time I've been a happy user of GV. Although it doesn't receive updates anymore, it's stable and I have no real problems with it, except one, perhaps someone can hint me for a solution.
Every now and then when I plug in my earphone's they are not detected. When I play music it goes through the internal speaker. At first I thought it was a hardware problem but luckily I can solve it by rebooting the phone, so it's probably a software glitch. Perhaps it's a matter of killing and/or restarting a task ?

I've had this problem a few days ago with my new rom (yes, I've changed GV for the cm7.2 nightly), and I think it may be the same problem: has you been listening to FM radio but with the speaker? If so, ensure you disable speaker before disconnecting the radio. At least, it was my problem; everything was been played via speaker, I suppose it has to be due to some CM setting.

No I don't listen to the radio but use Winamp to play locally stored MP3's. It only happens when my phone is up for several days, after a reboot everything's fine.
