You should flash a radio that fits your region, and that gives you the best performance.
This is not the same for everybody, so test some of their
And if you want a good test, try a radio for at least 2/3 days.

First you should pay attention this message. "You should flash a radio that fits your region, and that gives you the best performance."

You have to use goldcard to bypass CID check

Hi,

I have just tried to update my radio.

Download and MD5 checksum were all fine and the update process finished without any errors.

But when the phone asked to be rebooted it got stock in the white HTC screen.
It didn't do anything for about 30min. until I pulled the battery.
When turned on again with volume down button pressed I could see the new radio version.
Tried to boot again but still on the white HTC screen.

Downloaded the old radio and flashed is but again, white HTC screen?

Turned it off and then on again with the volume down button pressed.
The old radio version was back but still no luck while booting?

Then I ran the newest RUU and it finished without any errors, but phone still won't boot, stock at the white HTC screen.

Did a factory reset through recovery but again... no luck?

What to do now, any suggestions?

Phew... solved it.

I flashed a custom recovery (Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4).
In there I wiped all and flashed CM7 again and this time it booted all the way to CM7 ;)

Now my phone is working with the updated radio end a clean install of CM7.

Still don't now what went wrong in the first place?

I had the same issue too waaaay back. Deleting cache and dalvik brought it back to life.

Not sure though how you could delete them without a custom recovery...

Talking about Recovery: CWM has been updated to 5.0.2.0. It feels way faster than your version.

Download ROM Manager from market, and update CWM in there! (Actually, ROM Manager comes with CM7 already...)

CWM Recovery touch is available for the Desire S since today... http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.1.5-saga.img

Well, i haven't flashed a custom recovery from bootloader/fastboot before. I have always used CWM directly from ROM Manager. So i had to do it this way because the phone got stock at the white HTC screen.

The touch version of CWM, can this only be used from ROM Manager or can it be flashed from bootloader or both?

I am very glad that my phone isn't bricked :)

The easiest way to flash it is to use a tool called android flasher.

Very convenient, also to flash radios and ROMs.

If you install it in ROM Manager, you gotta pay. If you flash the recovery file via ADB or Android Flasher, it's free.

Stop it. What you say it's false.
rom manager is free too. You could find two versions
Free Version and Premium version for $5.99

And you could use Rom manager free apk for flashing your rom without problem.
And for flashing a radio, you must use your fastboot and a file which name PG88IMG

I was talking about CWM touch, dude... Of course ROM Manager is free!
And I said that flashing a radio with Androi Flasher is easier for dummies than using fastboot.

So... There are other ways to push a new radio on the device, and what I said is absolutely true. ;-)

Good morning, read exactly before you start blaming. :)

Stop blaming. You're funny :D
I've read before writing something.
And that's you, who's write this "If you install it in ROM Manager, you gotta pay" and not me.

So stop it, please :D

Lol. Well, to get this 100% straight for all times: there's the option in ROM Manager to install CWM Recovery Touch (not the usual ClockWorkMod Recovery). If you install it from there, then you pay. So... Install CWM Recovery Touch via ADB or whatever program, and it's free. OK now? ;-)

alright. just one more clarification. Should i simply put radio.zip file in sdcard and choose install from zip in cwm ? and will i need to clean any partition or re-install rom?

Update:
I've just put that file in sd card and rebooted in bootloader, it asked for update, chose yes and it's done! thank you
no rom re-install etc. required.

    Code:
/* I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
     * thermonuclear war, or the end of the world. Please do some research
     * if you have any concerns about flashing a radio before flashing it!
     * YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if you point the
     * finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you. */

    How to Flash:

In order for this to work, the HTC Desire S needs to be S-OFF. Flashing the radio with a corrupt file or interrupting the flash, can brick the device, please proceed with caution.

    1. Download the your choice of radio for the HTC Desire S.
    2. Make sure the filename is PG88IMG.zip exactly or it will not work and copy it to the same folder as adb (the /platform-tools folder within the Android SDK folder).
    3. Connect the HTC Desire S to the computer via USB.
    4. On the computer, open terminal and run the following commands:
      Code:
      adb push PG88IMG.zip /sdcard/PG88IMG.zip
      adb shell md5sum /sdcard/PG88IMG.zip
NOTE: The md5 should match up the provide the original download location. If not, redownload & try again.
      Code:
      adb reboot bootloader
    5. The HTC Desire S will reboot & usually boot into fastboot. Pressing the Power button will put the device into the bootloader.
    6. The bootloader will scan for the radio update. Once it finds the update, select Yes.
    7. Allow the bootloader to finish flashing the updated radio, and reboot the HTC Desire S normally.

Thanks for putting these in one place, and even though there's a warning about bricking phone's, I would like to warn everyone that flashing a radio is very rarely necessary, and should not be done on a whim!!! Not enough is known about recovering from a bad flash on the NVRam (radio), and if this happens you could end up with a very expensive calculator.

thanks for this, but should i update to the latest or stick with my radio for now? any reviews on the new one using CM7.1 stable? thank in advance.

    Cheers!

    For me:

    Rom: CyanogenMod V7.1.0 stable
Radio: 20.48.30.0822U_3822.09.08.20_M - that's suits for me, no battery drain, no signal loss, everything works as it should.
    RIL: HTC-RIL 2.2.0018G (Mar 24 2011) - already in CM - do not change-it.

As I see in your signature you have the same specs, so it's better not to change the radio. Personally used 20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04 for a week, but I had 6-10% battery drain every night (exchange active sync, data enable). After switching on 20.48.30.0822U_3822.09.08.20_M battery drain is 1-2% in the same circumstances. For me only notable difference between the two radios were the drain. Hope it helps.
