It's clearly NOT indestructible, and compared to gorilla glass 2 this one isnt as durable.
Screen protectors also work as a bumper if you drop you phone.

My iPhone has a few chips in the screen, even though it has gorilla glass.

My Ace Screen looks like it just came out of the box, and it has been dropped, and I have even tested the durability of the screen by trying to scratch it with a knife, keys, and sand paper... and it still looks brand new.

Screen protectors make the phone screen feel less slick and smooth, and they are difficult to put on and remove without air bubbles all while staying centered. You can't even force out most air bubbles with a credit card or flat edge. They also make the screen less responsive, although this isn't much of an issue with capacitive touch screens anymore, it still happens if your protector is too thick.

What are you doing that you need a protector? I carry my keys and stuff in one pocket and my phone in the other, and even if they are in the same pocket, none of my phones have ever been scratched by anything in my pocket...
Can't even tell my phone has a protector on. And perfectly easy to apply without bubbles. You just aren't doing it right :)

I got my phone last week and wanted a screen protector, I picked up a pack of these on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261052547454
I had no trouble cleaning the screen and applying it without bubbles, but I have noticed that my fingerprints are much more noticable, which is annoying, but you can hardly tell when the screen is on anyway. At least I won't get scratches or scuffs which are more important in the longrun, right?

Edit: Oh, and also it is less "smooth" and if your fingers are a bit sweaty they tend to drag on the screen which can be annoying. I think I'm used to it now though and will keep it on.

Which screen protector do you have? I mean, the pack of 3x I bought was 99p, so they're pretty cheap, what are the more 'expensive' ones that are supposedly better?

Phone IMAO

In my opinion: Buy a dual protective case, something that will be impact resistant and protect those flimsy corners...

Galaxy Ace comes with Gorilla Glass, it will resist scratches a lot more than regular screens.
Screen protector is OK to protect the glass, good protectors wont leave residue on the glass, and if they leave some residue, you can wipe it off with soft solvent. Also replacing the glass is inexpensive now days, unless you got a latest model...

Mayor concen on most of the Samsung phones now days is breaking the glass. It is true they have gorilla glass, but since the frame of these phones is made of plastic, when they fall from your hands to the concrete floor and land on a corner...... Ouch!!!! Glass breaks.

It kinda sucks that the flagship phone of Samsung, the Galaxy S3, suffers from the same defect. Its a flagship phone and they couldn't put it in an aluminum frame?.... /sigh
