Yeah, the eMMC chip is an internal memory chip, I always heard it called a NAND chip before but its the same thing.
unfortunately if it turns out to be the eMMC chip then its not an easy thing to replace.
most people replace the whole motherboard to fix it.
its not a common thing to go bad, but considering the age of our phones it could easily happen.
if thats whats wrong your best option would likely be either an insurance replacement or an upgrade.
