We have a large house with just one microcell and almost no service without it so we've come to rely on it heavily. We also host a lot of guests so have needed to solve problems across a lot of AT&T phones.
FWIW, the single biggest solution I can pass along is to get a Gilsson Antenna and put it on a window sill somewhere. You can then put your Microcell anywhere (as long as it is attached by wire to the antenna).
You can google more information on this and the antennas are on Amazon and many other places.
I'm not sure exactly why it is needed or what it exactly does but as you can find from numerous online posts, it solves numerous connectivity issues with Microcells.
