I think you have to use the power button or you can slide out the keyboard with ICS. I know you can have the menu button unlock it though like older Android versions.

There is no hardware menu button so it isn't recognized when u press it while the phone is sleep... I think I'm confusing waking the device up and unlocking it I need for it to wake when I press the volume buttons

loving my new D3 running the alpha 6 build but I have one issue that is killing me. I use widgetlocker as my lock screen and on my OG and D2G I was able to unlock my phone using either the volume buttons or touching the keyboard if it was already open prior to it going to sleep. I am not able to duplicate this functionality on my D3 with ics and wasn't able to get titanium backup to restore widgetlocker when I was on gingerblur so I'm not sure if it's a widgetlocker/D3 issue or an ics issue... I wouldn't have an issue just using the power button but my d2g was almost rendered useless when the power button jammed in and became inoperable and left me figuring out workarounds to turn my phone on reboot and turn the screen off... I'm trying to avoid using this power button as much as possible so if anyone knows of a way I can unlock or wake my phone from using the volume buttons pleaseeeee let me know... other than that and the penile screen I have zero complaints

I am mildly puzzled by your reasoning for this request. You want an alternate hardware button to wake the screen even though the power button already does this because you want to be proactive in case of a hardware malfunction that you experienced on a previous phone? I would suggest using the power button for this, that is it's purpose. If you are totally against that, then get used to sliding out your keyboard or plugging in a charger since these are the only other methods that will wake the screen. When the Cyanogenmod Settings are more complete, this may be an option, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is not, it is kind of a redundant function. You've probably heard the saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", well......

Lmaooo you got me so good I can't help but laugh smh. Moto went kind of cheap on the power button after the original Droid IMO. Both my d2g and my brothers d2 power buttons jammed and with this being a 4 inch screen and now the power button being in the middle not only would the volume rocker alleviate my fear of the jamming problem but I find reaching this power button to be a little more difficult than the previous droids but not enough to complain about solely for that reason. It is possible for the volume buttons to wake the device using widgetlocker on gb (I restored a gb Rom just to be sure) so I think you're right about the cyanogen settings just not being there yet for ics but I'm almost sure they will when the'y're finished. Or perhaps it's something widgetlocker needs to update. Somebody at cyanogen has to realize the need for workarounds not just for preference but potential instances of necessity. With no working power button I luckily had the option of adding the sleep button to the notification toggle widget because otherwise I had no way of turning my screen off or locking my phone short of waiting for it to timeout. I had no way of turning it on without plugging it in which only worked because cyanogen disabled the stock charge screen that Motorola has. I was just fortunate to have the options of using my phone after a major button gave out on it so I'd like to be able to stay ahead of the storm if I can this time because this button already feels stiff and poorly constructed... considering cm9 has the sleep button option in the notification widget I'll just wait and pray they add the volume wake feature as well...* End rant*

I'm glad you have a sense of humor about it. I'm sure many would have been offended by my comments. Hope you figure something out that works. Be sure to post a solution if you find it, I'd bet there are other "proactive potential hardware failure" people out there that want this as well.

Is this you?

Personally though, I came from a larger DX with a centered power button, so this one was actually a relief for me because that DX power button was far away lol.

I don't believe there is no access to internal storage via the pc yet only sd or vice versa im not sure which one it is but im sure it will be supported as well as stop via long press in the finished builds or maybe even the beta versions

has anyone been experiencing a problem in CM9 with the clock widgets? the last digit of the minutes does not show up for my droid 3 (xt862).

EXAMPLE: it is 5:37pm here, my widget shows 5:3 pm.

I do not have this issue when i switch back to stock rom, and it is an issue with every clock widget i have tried while running cm9 (currently using flipclock). if this is the wrong place to ask, i am sorry, as this is my first post. bring on the noob jokes in the pm if you like, but be gentle.

I just flash Steel Rom by safestrap v1.08 and when connecting to PC I can see both MOTO drive and SDcard drive. I am going to flash back to Cm9/ICS again to see.

BTW, just curious I can flash back to Moto stock original rom from verizon? :D

Did you make a nandroid of your original stock rooted rom? I currently run SD 4.5 and cm9 in safestrap just so I can flash back n forth between the two but I have a nandroid of my original rooted rom so if need be I can flash back to it on the go.

Try going into launcher settings, and select "resize all widgets". I'm pretty sure there's a quick fix for your issue... :)

sorry for being a little kid about this, but i am new to android. i was a dev for maemo until about 2 weeks ago when i decided my nokia n900 had seen enough damage, and i abandoned nokia and tmobile altogether.

...how does one access said launcher settings?

Anyone try using nova launcher and find high battery usage? I'd never seen trebuchet at 9% before...

I'm at 1.92 MB data usage, and 3% for battery drain. Try clearing the launcher's cache in Manage Apps, and restart the launcher from Nova Settings, and see what happens. This may be a dumb question, but did you wipe battery stats and calibrate the battery after flashing Alpha 6?? 9% is ridiculously high battery consumption for a launcher!

    I made no mods. It was like this right off the bat, while I was setting up my google acct. I had trouble selecting the text input box until I actually held my finger there. Thought it was frozen or something at first. I can't stand it, I had to switch back to liberty. Frankly until the camera works I can't use ics as a daily driver anyways. I use it a fair bit

    Could try these build.prop tweaks. I have them all at except I haven't adjusted the max_events because I find the screen pretty responsive(tested to see if they caused crashing for you lol). Perhaps just the 1of keeping the launcher in memory will help with what you're noticing. I have to say it seems even quicker here now but it could be placebo. I've also removed libGLES_android.so etc been messing around with flashplayer trying to find a fix but no luck yet, poor framerate in videos, like maybe 1 fps and it drops the rest to give ~27fps slideshow.

    Helps Scrolling Response
    windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec=150

    Increases overall touch response
    debug.performance.tuning=1
    video.accelerate.hw=1

    Forces your home screen launcher to remain in memory
    ro.home_app_adj=1

    Render UI with GPU
    debug.sf.hw=1

    The globalnwswitch thing is in the /system/app folder. Delete the apk from there

    In build.prop

    it goes

    "# Default Network type.
    # 7 => Global Phone (4 => CDMA).
    ro.telephony.default_network = 2."

    does this mean that the default network is already set to 2? Do i have to change the number '7' to '2' also?? Thanks for any help guys. :)

    I tried to change the setting in build.prop but i don't think it saved anything. Im using AstroViewer to do it. I also deleted the GlobalNswitch.apk from the APP folder.

    But when i reboot the phone it says 'process com.android.phone has stopped. Am I doing something wrong?? LOL

    edit: and one more thing. phone won't let me uninstall/delete GlobalNSwitch.apk. it said delete was unsuccessful and uninstall was unsuccessful..

    The # means that that line is commented out ie doesn't actually do anything. Its just there for your information. So yes default network is set to 2 already.

    /system is a read only file system. I'm not familiar with astro manager, some file mangers allow you to remount read/write. Look around otherwaise use a terminal emulator to run this command
    busybox mount -o remount,rw /system
    Make sure you are root first by using the command su if you are it should say som ething like root@solana (or something similar, I can't remember exactly)

    How does this do for a daily driver? I just got my Droid 3 replaced so I've got a fresh system to fall back on just in case.

    If you don't use the camera much/at all, it's a great daily. I've been on CM9 exclusively, for about three months now, and haven't had any problems doing what I need to do. The camera is a sticking point for some, but, I don't mind at all. :)
