Many posts sound like sci-fi for me. On CM7.2 (normal use) i get max 1 day(+5 - 6h). Heavy use can drain the battery in 10h. On modded stock roms i get max 2 days. My record is 3 days without use. I have 2g turned on, not using mobile data, at night i switch to airplane mode, wifi turned on only when i need to go online, display brightnes at 20% and cpu 800/128 SmartAss v2.

I've been using the "Particle ROM" on my GIO now for a while. So far, it's the most stable Custom ROM I've used, WIFI is fine, no obvious bugs and very good battery performance.

I was very excited with particle...
but the most important thing that underlined my choice to change rom was the wifi issue...
d u guys know how to fix,
or there is already a new version...
directly from hyriand.... or?

I am new here and I am also a new android user. Got my galaxy gio 3 days ago.
Also if possible can you guys tell me if my phone needs to be unlocked ( provider wise) in order to root and add custom rom.

Tyvm in advance.

P.s. the main thread about custom roms, flashing etc is closed and some of the links for the download do not host the apps there no more.

My first android custom rom is particle,
flash with Odin... there were less rom flashed by recovery that time...

I don't think u should unlock like u said...

Yeahh... Only thing that you really can do to save your battery is to underclock your processor. The best setup in my opinion is: (But you can correct me)
*Main - 806 MAX - 245 MIN - SmartassV2
*Screen Off - 245 MAX - 122 MIN - Ondemand
*Temp > 49.5C - 320 MAX - 122 MIN - SmartassV2
*Charging - 806 MAX - 320 MIN - SmartassV2
*Battery < 16% - 672 MAX - 122 MIN - SmartassV2
Other thing is deep sleep which is on CM9 now but i have no experience on that.

Would you mind explaining how to apply these settings? I'm on CM 7.2

I've tested many many ROMs (stock, CM7.2, CM9, ...) and here is what I can say :

Battery / Stability wise, I would say "Adrenaline" is maybe the best.
No bug at all, rock stable, extremely smooth, and partial ICS look available.
I have been using it for several weeks, and I'm not planing to switch until an ICS ROM becomes available for Gio that is stable and battery friendly.

Phiezx CM7.2 is also really great.
It is not as smooth as Adrenaline, but offers more tweaks.
I've tested CM7.2 + Adrenaline Boost but it is still not as smooth as original Adrenaline.

GalaxyICS's CM9 is very promising, extremely smooth, looks great, but obviously it is not suitable for daily use (battery life is miserable, many bugs and stability issues).

I've not tested Particle, Jonas, and all other ROM that are not maintained any more.
