Default Is it possible to swap out the Phone.apk and contacts.apk of ICS ROMs?

I've been on Andromadus Mimicry for a few months now and my biggest gripe is the super slow Phone and Contacts app. Incoming calls take a long time to display full details, tapping on the phone icon can sometimes take up to 10s for the dialer to pop up.

Is there a way to substitute a GB Phone.apk or something?

U can try your self. It is not big deal, just make backup before that. I noticed (have issues with the personal ringtones) that 3rd party apps with this purpose using contacts and contact storage as well. I think the problem is low priority process of phone and contacts app cuz of that sometimes play personal ringtone sometimes not. I'd make all of my ringtones *.ogg for minimize cpu usage (followed result from google search). I didn't experience problems with dialer and contacts, especially any kind of lag.

P.S. I'm on Mimicry 1.5 ICS as well

Oh! so when you made your custom ringtones as ogg, do they work? Mine works only some times. I think the dialer/phone thing is somehow hardware related. some people see it. Some don't.

No, not really works. I'd give up and install app for random ringtone

I use a custom mp3 ringtone on my sdcard and it has never not used the tone on incoming call. I also don't have lag with incoming caller ID or the phone/dialer app taking a long time to load.

The reason I'm saying this is because surely there's a difference somewhere that causes lag and other issues with these apps that is influenced outside of the rom itself.

It's frustrating to hear reports like this as a developer and not know how to help people or how to reproduce them yourself locally.

On incoming call sometimes show only number and it takes about a sec to check in contacts and show the name... I think this is related to the issue that i described HERE

I've started experience same problems since a month, so I'll wake up thread.
Is there Phone app that I can try to replace build-in one?
