It's possible he got it working, though not holding my breath unless I see screenshots with all the gory details.

does the phone need to be HSPA+ compatible to have 3G-like data? I've read in a couple places that this phone may not support GSM data, just "2G." confusing.

however, according to the service manual which was posted in the bootloader unlock thread, our device (SCH-I535) has the following:

• CDMA/PCS 850/1900 MHz, EVDO, LTE B13, Global Roaming
• GSM Quad, EDGE, WCDMA2100
• HSPA+ 21Mbps, LTE 100Mbps

EDIT: My main interest here is for compatibility with the Straight Talk service. Since our phone *should* work perfectly with their BYOD SIM card program (which uses ATT GSM network): http://www.straighttalksim.com/
If we cannot get data working with GSM, the other alternative is to use Straight Talk's CDMA option (using verizons network.) this way would give you 3G data and the method would be similar to the Page Plus one quoted in the OP, but Straight Talk won't let you activate with your IMEI - you will need a straight talk phone (that you will NOT use - do not even turn it on) to clone with various tools and push to your VZW GS3
If anyone is interested in this I can link to more info.
Pm sent

If anyone has anymore info on getting the verizon s3 to straight talk plz post it.. thx
