a kernel is the one thing that it is necessary for. most kernels just include it in the update zip though so it gets done automatically when you flash

Most kernels don't, to avoid the "this kernel boots too slow, uninstalled/flashed something else".
I include it if problems are rampant and i want to force it, which happens rarely.
a fully wiped dalvik cache isn't necessarily a bad idea, but the long boot times on every kernel install will go on your nerves quick. :)

flashed this kernel and been getting real horrible battery life. Also had the "sleep of death".

Is there a link for the stock kernel for 3.2?

hello all, tablet/honeycomb noob here but I know my way around android phones... just wanted to say thanks for the kernel cuz this thing is smokin' when OC'd and combined with your Villain rom, and rooting/CWM/flashing were all easy as pie thanks to the nice instructions I found plus battery life seems to be incredible.. 2% drain while idle when I was at work for 7 hours, lol just seems to be super for me because I have a 4G smartphone that eats batteries alive

I would like to know this as well, and uncommenting ro.carrier=wifi-only in build.prop doesn't seem to work unless I'm doing it wrong

edit: derp left the hash tag at the front of the line, seems to be OK now... Peter go into build.prop file in/system with text editor and towards the bottom there is a line that looks like the one I quoted above, remove the hash tag from the line and ignore the one above it that says uncomment line below or whatever then reboot and no more sim prompt on lockscreen/force close of the process that I think is related to mobile data

edit: no more cell data drain shows in battery usage either :D

Hi,
I've downloaded the following kernel from the first post:
[...]/Acer/a500/kernel/Villain_iconia_kernel_3.7.zip (md5sum:41ab0489a01d049520f578f7e954c6eb)

I'm using it with LightSpeed 1.0.9 [HC 3.2.1].

Can someone confirm the 'usb_wwan' and 'option' modules packaged with the kernel are working?

The wanted version magic for this kernel is '2.6.36.3HoneyVillain-3.7+ SMP preempt mod_unload ARMv7', but the usb_wwan and option modules are with different version magic:
option.ko - version magic '2.6.36.3-Trinity+ SMP preempt mod_unload ARMv7 '
usb_wwan.ko - version magic '2.6.36.3-Trinity+ SMP preempt mod_unload ARMv7 '

it seems these moduels are from other kernel ?

Installed this last night on my a500, OC and UV running 1.4g @ 1175mv with COD tweaks so far so stable, but Im not a heavy - heavy user either, gotta give props this was a major help in getting rid of the lag my tab had.

Hello richardtrip.

I'm trying to mount ntfs flash drive via command line.
I can mount it but can't unmount.

I do...

Code:
# insmod /system/lib/devices/ntfs.ko
# mount -t ntfs /dev/block/sda1 /mnt/usb_storage

Everything seems to be ok but when I try to unmount it I get...

Code:
#umount /mnt/usb_storage
Failed

Also when after the mounting I go to the Settings>Storage I see USB unmounted. I can press 'Mount' and Flash Drive kinda gets mounted and I can unmount it (it works unlike the terminal command).

Is this my fault or the ntfs module is not fully supported by the OS?
