[Q] Broken mainboard on S3 I535
My son's S3 had a bad usb port. Being an old-timer tech, I bought the rework tools and a new micro usb port, but didn't practice enough and ended up lifting traces on the motherboard. The phone still comes up and works, but can't charge. Now I'm looking for the cheapest fix such as:
1) buying a good ESN phone with a cracked screen, etc. from EBAY or CL and swapping the mainboard with the one I broke.
2) buying a bad ESN phone with a cracked screen, (or just a good mainboard with a bad ESN), then swapping the boards and copying the ESN, or possibly even swapping the flash ROM chip from one board to the other.
I guess I could buy CDMA WorkShop for $108, and "move" the ESN, but that would eat up any savings I started with. Is there a way to move the ESN without the cost? I feel OK ethically, since I'm doing a repair.
I'm looking for recommendations from folks wiser than I. Any thoughts?
